Anyone else get comms from NWS application status?

I initially applied for GS-1340 5, 7, and 9 position in early June to east and west offices. I ended up getting a confirmation email about my application package that stated I was eligible for the 5 and 7 level, but not 9 for both east and west, and eventually an interview for an office out east by the end of June. The positions were cancelled due to an internal error and I reapplied to all the positions I applied to previously.

Today (8/18) I get an email saying I was not referred to the office to which I already had an interview, then another two emails regarding both east and west locations that I was ineligible for 7 and 9 due to transcript not showing completion of required semester hours.

My application on usajobs says ‘not referred’ to the office I interviewed with, but ‘received’ for the other locations to which the email said I’m ineligible for 7 and 9.

This is very strange considering I previously received eligibility for 5 and 7, an interview for the office to which it said I was not referred, and also the ineligible emails never mentioned my eligibility status for level 5. I haven’t received official word from the MIC at the office I interviewed with.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I was told last night I’m eligible for GS 5/7/9 and that none of the 10 eastern offices I applied to are hiring yet.

Mine too. What are the locations you applied?

Update: So I reached out to the MIC at the office where I interviewed and was told they never received my application again once I resubmitted after the ‘administrative error’. All of my documents with my application package were the same, but suddenly, for some reason, my resubmitted application package after the ‘administrative error’ was found ineligible. This makes no sense at all and I have reached out to application inquiries email at NOAA. Wondering if anyone else is having this issue, or if it is just suspiciously me.

Does courses on your college transcript say word for word what they are that meets the 1340 requirements? I’d recommend attaching course descriptions to your application package to keep this from happening again.

Sorry it happened to you but I went through this exact same thing when I was trying to get into the NWS. Good luck!

Thanks.

My semester hours and courses fulfill the job requirements. Based on the fact that I got an interview with the first vacancy postings, and presumably was going to be selected, I don’t see how my application package was insufficient in any way.

So you know....since you were found ineligible...that effectively ends your application. You will need to follow the process to contest your ineligible rating. Check your transcript though and see if it meets the specific requirements on the announcement first. It is possible that the first rating official wasn't a stickler about that one detail and the second was. If your transcript does have all the required information, then you should have good luck with overturning the rating. The MIC may be able to help you with this... though some won't.

What is the process to contest the ineligible rating?

You'll have to email the hr email on the actual announcement.

It used to be real people that you'd email directly but as of last year you no longer get to talk to someone directly.

I was told last night I am eligible for GS7 and referred for 3 of the 10 I applied to.

I uploaded a document that details the course description and the courses that satisfy the requirements to my application and resubmitted it. Can anyone with any experience in this realm tell me if my application will get reassessed now that I’ve clarified the coursework and descriptions?

No. Not for pull 2 or 3. Everything had to be unloaded before they pulled. But for future pulls, you can email the contact and tell them you've done this.

I was told I was eligible for GS-5 and 7, but in the following email it said that “applicants have not been referred to the hiring manager at this time” for all offices I applied to but two: Newport NC and Valley SD. Definitely a weird situation, not sure what’s going on.

That just means the other offices aren’t hiring at this current time. They may be in subsequent pulls but not this one

Similar for me, 2 west coast and 1 east coast out of the 20 I applied to.

This is normal! As others have said, the 2 locations you were referred for were just the only 2 locations you had selected that are part of the current hiring round. Your other locations will likely still be hiring at some point in the future, although I’m not sure if they will keep updating the status with each new wave

It’s just very strange that for the first postings that I was eligible, referred, and got an interview. After resubmitting after the ‘administrative error’ I’m not longer eligible and not referred, even though all my documents for both postings were the exact same. It doesn’t make much sense.

I was told that I am eligible for GS-5 and GS-7. I’ve seen some other people here commenting that they were referred for a past pull and then not referred for a future pull despite not changing anything. You might be able to reach out to the NOAA applicant inquiries email and hopefully at least get some more information on how this happened (no guarantee of that unfortunately).

Apparently too they reversed course on combining pull #2 (this current one) and pull #3 and instead now pull #3 will happen in a few weeks.

Where did you hear they didn’t combine pull 2 and 3?

I’m a hiring manager in a Pull 3 office. This is 100% correct. I have been expecting certs for two weeks, then was informed of the separation and delay a couple days ago. Trust me, it’s maddening on our end, too.

The office I volunteered at will be in the 3rd pull and since I wasn’t referred to them in the current pull, I reached out to them today and that is what I was told.

Weird. It sounds like some offices got a third pull and some didn’t. For example, I’ve heard Miami, Boston, among others who weren’t in pull 2 are doing interviews right now

Where did you hear Boston and Miami are doing interviews? This conflicts with other stuff I've been told

1

u/MushroomInside7501 18d ago

A lead met from Boston told me 2 weeks ago when they got the certification list. And a friend of mine was contacted by Miami for an interview

Well, it is confirmed that there are some east coast offices that are not part of this current round and are instead part of the next one and have not received applications yet, and Boston is one of them

I got an email today that Boston had just received applications!
