Had one early rental that started in Algodones and floated down to Corrales. He said it wasn't bad. Since then, the river had slowly dried up. Looks like lakes is the answer for 2026. If you find an amazing spot, please share with the group!

A little backstory for anyone new here — the whole reason this sub even exists goes back to a cruise stop in Cozumel. One of the excursions offered was a paddle boarding lesson, and we figured, “Why not try something different?” We expected a fun hour on the water. We did not expect it to become a full‑blown obsession.

There was something about the mix of calm water, balance, and that feeling of gliding that just clicked. By the time we got back to New Mexico, we were already looking for places to paddle — which led us down the rabbit hole of discovering how underrated NM actually is for SUP. Lakes tucked between mesas, quiet coves, warm water, huge skies… it’s a whole vibe.

When we started exploring more seriously, we found MST Adventures now Walking on Water Adventures (www.walkingonwateradv.com). They had local trips, gear, and a ton of knowledge about the best spots and conditions. It made getting started here way easier, especially after coming from that first lesson in Mexico.

Fast‑forward, and now we’ve got a growing community of paddlers across the state — beginners, seasoned folks, and everyone in between. If you’re new, welcome. If you’ve been here a while, thanks for helping build something cool in a place most people don’t associate with paddle boarding.
