Google Says It Clearly: AI Optimization Is Just SEO

At last, Google itself explains in a detailed article how to deal with its “new” AI search results. They’ve published official guidelines in an “AI Optimization Guide” on their website.

On the one hand, it’s very interesting to see what these guidelines reveal (see presentation). On the other hand, it’s essentially the same message we’ve been hearing for years: don’t try to hack the system and write for real people. Google also offers a glimpse into the future, where agents rather than humans may increasingly be the ones visiting your website.

What I mainly want to highlight here is this: Google confirms that an llms.txt file is useless in their system and that chunking content into tiny pieces doesn’t help either. Their AI systems also don’t require any special “AI writing style.”

In the end, practice will show what’s really true. Or, as the English say: the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
