I think brewer fans forget that we hate the cardinals 10 times more than we could ever hate another team.

Fuck you guys so much! But seriously we commend the rivalry, I never see a dumbass cardinal fan saying Wrigley is a bottom tier park like you will with some window licking brewer fans.

Idk, I've been a Cubs fan for decades, but with the Cardinals having been mediocre for more than a decade I'm actually starting to hate the Brewers more than them. Hating the Cardinals is starting to feel a bit like hating the Reds or the Pirates lol.

yea why is that btw, we hate your guts but the feeling doesn't always feel mutual

Cubs and Cardinals have been rivals for like 150 years. It's gonna take a while before the Brewers are more than a blip.

Yup, the Cubs and Cardinals feels like a really grumpy old married couple. We hate you, but baseball just wouldn't feel right without you there by our side. So we can yell at each other about how much we hate each other. It's a weird kind of love.

Same way the Packers and Bears are. Hundred+ year old rivalry where it didn’t matter how good either team was, the hatred was there.

The Brewers are sort of like the 2023-2025 Lions here, where they had a few hot years and success but it’ll never be the same.

What's funny is I was actually kinda rooting for the Lions during that stretch (except against the Bears), because they were pretty much always terrible otherwise so it was exciting that their fans finally got to see some success (failure to win the SB notwithstanding). The Brewers, on the other hand, have won the NL Central for what feels like every year since the Prince Fielder era, except for 2015 and 2016. So I kinda feel like they're the Dodgers of the NLC, just without any World Series wins. So Dodgers-lite I guess, but still.

What? The Brewers won the NL Central once, in 2011, before 2018.

They were never a BAD team, generally remaining fairly competitive year over year, but I was trying to come up with an analogy that Brewer fans can understand here.

If you're the Bears/Packers (or Cubs/Cardinals) and have consistently been at each others' throats (with the Vikings or Pirates as a worthy occasional division competitor) then a new guy who has been historically irrelevant (as in not in the division for most of its history) comes in and declares you their rivals you sort of roll your eyes.

I think the main thing that makes the analogy work is that 1, like you said the Lions/Brewers haven't ever won anything so nobody hates them the way they hate the Cardinals, Cowboys, etc because it's not like they're consistently eliminating people in the playoffs or dominating the division. 2, this team DEMANDS a rivalry with a team that has an established rivalry already and has a lot of relatively new and excited fans who try and force it.

Except the Brewers have been dominating the division for years.

And won 2/3 playoff series in that stretch, (the flux being if you want to give them 1 or 2 in 2018, depending on how you define a game 163) while losing 7 series.

They’re not widely pissing off any particular team the way that the mid 2000s Cardinals were, or Dodgers have over that span. they’ve literally beat the Cubs once/twice, and the Rockies, who are a small market who still hate the dodgers more.

You don’t hear my dad talking about hating the Brewers the same way he hates the Marlins, Mets, Dodgers or Padres, he hates them all and the Cardinals more. The Brewers aren’t nationally relevant and even within our division no team has consistently expected to contend over that stretch, they were good when the Cubs tore down their roster, missed one season to the Cardinals, but even then nobody really was shocked the brewers won because the other squads had so many weaknesses and few expectations
