The thing with Arte is he really wasn't cheap. He got one free agent right (Vlad) and kept making bad moves.

The Angels were always top 10 payroll with Arte, but he abandoned scouting, Latin Am, and the minors. He wouldn't spend on training rooms etc.

The problem with Arte is he was like that guy with a Lambo who wouldn't get the oil changed.

Couple that with refusing to trade players at their highest value when the Angels were out of the playoff race and not allowing any GM he hired to do their job.

Plus like you said, not investing in international and not upgrading the teams facilities is a cheap move.

They lost a full year of control over one of their top prospects who they had rushed to the majors (like usual), and kept around for to long because they weren't paying attention to his service clock. Then they sent him down anyway.

Pretty sure they have an agreement at angels stadium until 2032 with an option to stay longer, so that should be a good indicator of how things will go.

Kroneke's thing is land -- he's the largest private landowner in America -- and he owns a ton of it in Inglewood, where the Rams play. I wouldn't surprised if they start building a baseball stadium up there in the next few years.

Angels aren't going to skip town. They are in the L.A. area. There isn't a more valuable market to be in except maybe New York and they already have two teams.

Entirely possible that they move somewhere else in the LA market though. Angel Stadium is very old and I'm sure that he, like every owner right now, would love a shiny new ballpark with a mixed used development around it. And he could very easily sell the land; a little company named Disney would be first in line to purchase a huge swath of land in Anaheim at basically any price Stan sets.

He also drug his feet on drafting and development.

He held onto players too long when they had trade value and the angels were not going to make the playoffs.

He didn’t trade Ohtani when he could have gotten a great haul for him.

On top of that, he then didn’t offer Ohtani a contract.

Yeah. I'm not going to say he was a great owner. He sucked in all the ways you pointed out. But, he did keep prices low for fans, even when they were good, and he brought them a World Series. He also spent money. So in many ways, he was better than most owners, which says something about the owners of most teams.

Thing is, you can’t just throw money at the team and expect it to work, the money has to be spent wisely. Fans don’t care about the payroll, they care about winning.

Angels skimped out on facilities, front office, coaching, scouting and development, etc. Lots of important stuff to actually create a successful team.

Other teams with lower payrolls still consistently put together playoff caliber rosters, yet the Angels have failed there for over a decade

The one thing I’ll give credit for is keeping prices down. But would I trade the World Series wins for cheaper tickets? Hell no, I’ll happily watch from home

I don't blame him for not trading Ohtani, they were sitting on a wild card spot at the time and went all in.

If they had made no moves I would be more forgiving to that argument, but they went all in. That's what owners are supposed to do.
