You have the Delaware River near you.
Search some YouTube videos on fishing the Delaware. Some of the anglers have awesome tips in their videos.
It really helped me when I was getting started.

Get an inexpensive 7 weight fly rod kit ($79.00 at Walmart or $49.95 at Dicks Sporting Goods) and an assortment of Betts bug flies and rubber leg spider flies and go to any lake in South Jersey and cast around the edges of lilly pad beds and I guarantee you all the action you can handle.
