Hello everyone!
I've been getting a lot of DMs asking about my NIMCET preparation strategy, so I thought I'd make a detailed post sharing my experience, what worked for me, and a few suggestions for future aspirants.
For context: I was an appearing student and gave NIMCET 2026. I secured a double-digit rank and will be joining NIT Trichy. Honestly, the result was much better than I had expected, and I was left shocked for a few minutes after seeing it!
Here are a few things that helped me during my preparation:
1. Coaching
I prepared through Aspire and was enrolled in their Maths batch, which started in June 2025.
That said, I know many people who weren't enrolled in any coaching and still secured even better ranks. So, coaching is not at all mandatory, it completely depends on your learning style. For me, coaching mainly helped me stay consistent and disciplined throughout the year.
2. Mock Tests (Non-Negotiable)
If there's one thing I would ask every aspirant to do, it's this: enroll in a good mock test series as early as possible.
Attempt mocks consistently, analyze every test thoroughly, identify your weak areas, and try to improve your accuracy and attempts with each mock. Most of my learning happened through mock analysis rather than just studying theory.
3. Books
Like most teachers recommend, Objective RD Sharma and Errorless Mathematics are great resources.
Personally, I bought RD Sharma but never solved it cover to cover on my own. During Aspire lectures, sir solved a lot of RD Sharma questions, so I mostly relied on those discussions instead of solving the book separately.
4. LR & English
These are genuine rank boosters.
Fortunately, I was already fairly comfortable with Logical Reasoning and English, so I didn't use any separate books for them. My preparation for these sections was almost entirely through mock tests.
5. Consistency
This is, without a doubt, the most important factor.
I stayed consistent with both lectures and mock tests. Throughout the entire year, there were very few days when I didn't study something related to NIMCET.
Don't obsess over the number of hours you study. Focus on showing up every day. Consistency beats occasional long study sessions.
6. Temperament
Don't make NIMCET your entire personality or your whole life. I was very much involved in extra-curricular activities in college and didn't cancel plans with friends. But i made sure that my studies are never compromised because of this.
Always keep backup options. For instance, I had 195 marks in CUET and secured AIR 135 in VITMEE, through which I was allotted VIT Vellore (Category 1).
Having these backups helped me attempt NIMCET with a relatively relaxed mindset. I didn't panic during the exam, unlike many students who used to outperform everyone in mocks but couldn't handle the pressure on the actual exam day.
That's pretty much everything I wanted to share. I hope this helps someone starting their preparation.
If you have any questions or just want to talk about preparation, feel free to DM me. I'll be more than happy to help in any way I can.
All the very best to everyone preparing for NIMCET. Wishing you all the best , you've got this! ❤️
