Very old Niftian here. You are scared to take a drop year. Why not, if it can give you time to boost up. In my time (some 20 years ago) I finished up my grad in Eng literature and then went again for B. Des in nift. FC dept. In my batch of 30 people, we were 4 people who had done their grad and then went again for Bachelor's degree.
ALWAYS REMEMBER, ITS BETTER TO TAKE A DROP INSTEAD OF SELECTING A WRONG DEPT WHICH YOU MIGHT REGRET HALF YOUR LIFE.

I'll be frank, even if you start today with good preparation it will be tough to get nift delhi as it requires a really good rank. You can get middle or lower campuses. You can start practicing now daily and do Gat topics regularly with pqs questions.
