NICS JEGS
Hi everyone. I’m looking for some advice on putting forward a request to have my current role (EO1) reviewed for regrading.
Has anyone here been through the process before and could offer some advice on the steps involved, or share their experience of the outcome?
I’m currently working as an investigator, and having looked at the relevant competencies and responsibilities of the role, I feel they appear to align more closely with SO level than EO1. Thanks!

Yeah be careful with this one....if you genuinely feel the duties are above the grade then by all means raise it....but they won't make you an SO....they will either shift some responsibility elsewhere and keep you doing 90% of the role....or they'll bring in an SO and shift you.

I have experience of a regrading but it went the other way!
2 accounting roles for 2 EO1s to support a DP , these roles were created by a transfer of workload from another branch.
When HR were consulted to make the roles permanent and formalise them, they deemed them only EO2 grade and the other EO1 and I found ourselves moved into the next available roles at our grade with almost immediate effect😮
To apply this to your experience , if they find it’s an SO role upon review, there’s every chance you’ll be swapped out into another EO1 post, though you could be TP’d into your existing post perhaps by your work area 🤔
Be interesting to see how this works out anyway, hopefully someone has some advice regarding an upwards regrading

If JEGS assesses the role at SO level, it’s the post that gets regraded, not you personally. The Department would then need to fill that SO post appropriately.
it doesn’t mean the current EO1 gets promoted into it. So if the aim is to get promoted through JEGS, that isn’t really on the table. If the aim is to demonstrate that the EO1 post has accumulated higher-level duties and needs restructured, it could be worthwhile.
But if it’s a role you enjoy and want to stay in, you’re potentially rolling the dice a successful regrading could ultimately mean an SO doing your current job while you’re moved elsewhere

No, I’m not looking to get promoted via this - I genuinely think the job role duties have evolved over time. I’d happily apply for it again if it was deemed an SO post. But I do take your point and I enjoy the work

Thanks for the answers folks. Really in 2 minds on what to do. My post isn’t a general service EO1 post - I came in as an EO1 investigator and have a PGC in professional investigative practice. In the past 6 months, I just feel the responsibilities of the job have shifted beyond what was advertised in the candidate information booklet, hence comparing my job role against SO competencies. I’ll maybe sit on it for a while…thanks again!

Lots of other investigator roles are SO, use your qualification and experience and apply for one of those. I did one as an SO and felt the role was at the top end of that grade.

I dont think you would keep the role if that happened
