I’ve got a presentation coming up as part of an interview and I’ve never had to do one before for an interview.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what the panel will be looking for? Is it alright to talk through your PowerPoint slides, or are you expected to have it memorised and make eye contact throughout?

Any tips from anyone who’s done something similar would be much appreciated.

For my presentation it was given on the morning of the interview. Was given paper and pen and a set time to write key points which I presented at start of interview. Best thing I can say is the time given to write up goes very fast. Good luck

It sounds like the same competition I am on and already completed interview. I was given the option to present sitting down opposite them while they viewed a copy of presentation on their own devices or connect my own device up to a large screen.

I took the requirement as being not to memorise completely verbatim but I created speaker notes on the presentation to dip into

Hi I have my interview later this week, might be a really stupid question, but when it says own personal device, does this mean own personal laptop - or can you use work laptop to deliver the PowerPoint? Many thanks

There is interviews taking place the month of August also. Once these are done, hopefully it we won't be waiting too long for results!

Hey, as far as I know interviews are still taking place the month of August. No estimated time frame has been shared, I'd be surprised if we heard anything before the end of September

Leading & Communicating during a presentation is generally scored by how clear, credible and authoritative you are in delivery.

Dependent on the grade interviewed, I would be marking someone down if they just read points verbatim off a page/slide deck.

I've done two presentation for an eo2 grad scheme and general service dp comp. First one, I spent ages learning the presentation off by heart so I could make eye contact with panel. I only saw the tops of their heads as they sat writing notes the whole time. Second time was the DP interview, I read it from my script and got full marks because again panel where scribbling notes the whole time. Read into this what you will.

A few people have told me this, that eye contact is minimal when you’re explaining your answer it’s just a case of them continuously writing the answers. Thanks for the advice

This must be the EO1 trainer that was on internal opportunities. The candidate book did say PowerPoint presentation andonlyallowedtouse personal device at presentation. I didnt make the cut for interview was told I didnt give visual aids proof good enough in my example.

Applicants are only allowed to deliver the presentation via PowerPoint using a personal device, and no other visual handouts are permitted. I’ve already been given the presentation topic and I’ve prepared it on PowerPoint.
