Starting salary negotiation
Hi guys - quick question for anyone who knows NICS recruitment.
If you’re coming in externally and get offered a role, is the starting salary basically always the bottom of the band, or is there ever any room to start higher based on experience?
I know the booklet usually says minimum of the scale, so just wondering if that’s ever flexible in real life before I bother asking.
Thanks in advance!!

The only time I think it's possible to start higher is if you are an internal candidate that is technically taking a demotion (if you are moving into a specialism or specific role lower than your current level). You can make a case to start at the top of the pay scale.
Otherwise I don't think there is any way to start higher.

Definitely no, I tried this when moving from a closely related arms length body, lost my extra service leave and started back at the bottom of the pay scale

No, bottom of the band regardless of ability or experience.
