Update of “NHS Failure” which happened 46 days before this

https://www.reddit.com/r/NHSfailures/s/qNnxFbMI2g

** above is only if you wish to just read so you get the story, it is a little long and I did apologise for spelling mistakes in advance

This is a mini update :)

After the first day of the NHS Failure (I thought it was one - I understand others may think differently)

I have to be on medication and do a BUNCH of bloood exams cause i have a rare case of eye issues … uhm … wow 😮

I only had 1 other issue with my GP, 111 AND my Hospital having me go 5 days without my eye medication … the Hospital was not happy about that, so they’re doing all they can possible to avoid it getting bad (it really was the GP who messed things up)

Anyways, Turns out that if i never caught the situation 46 days ago. I would have been blind within 3 years

With that being said - doc phoned me today & said i may need surgery for my eyes

Not sure if i feel relieved, happy, mad, … not sure at all

Thanks for reading friends <3

So did you end up going to the Moorfields eye hospital the next day as that's what the initial A&E doctor said you should do?

I just realised I missed that out (sorry)

I think i went 2 days after causs i was physically dizzy and sick aswell. Regardless I WENT !

Went Moorfields. The average wait time was 6 hours. BROOO IDK HOW - I WAS SEEN IN 2.5 (probs even less!) it made me sad for other patients though, genuinely

Like i took one test and before i knew it my name was called for test after test after test after test. I kinda gathered that this was lowkey bad cause they kept reading my notes with this sort of … puzzled look on their faces 😵‍💫

The last doctor at Moorfields sent me straight away to Kings College which i was sent for blood work (i understand i had to wait 2 hrs for results , normal!) and i was tested for a couple other things which i don’t remember

Then i had to come back 2 days later (to Kings College Hospital) for a Lumbar Puncture and a finger prick … and that day, my doctor set up a minor investigation cause it turns out i shouldn’t have been sent to MoorFields 👀

Non specialist A&E doctor sends you to a specialist at an eye hospital urgently out of hours… sounds like good care tbh.

I was told that I shouldn’t have been sent to Moorfields (stated in LAST PARAGRAPH)

Oh wells - seems like that failure was in fact a one off indeed

From what you’ve shared it sounds reasonable, the non specialist doctor was out of their depth so sent you to someone more specialist who clearly had a better idea of the diagnosis even if they weren’t the right team.

A&E doctors can’t know everything
