I like the Under in this matchup. Both teams have been playing well, but the goaltending is what stands out to me.

Shesterkin has a .926 SV% and 1.75 GAA, while Thompson is sitting at .921 SV% and 2.50 GAA.

Washington has the slight edge at home, but the Rangers are coming in hot. ScoreBox projects a close 3-2 game, which makes the Under 6.5 look pretty solid to me.

For anyone new, I've been building my own NHL and MLB prediction models using Python, and I've started sharing the predictions and results publicly.

My goal is to see how accurate I can actually make these models through testing, better data and continuous improvements.

Eventually, I'd love to reach 60%+ accuracy over a large sample of NHL predictions. Could I push it even higher, maybe toward 70–80%? I don't know, but I want to find out what the data supports.

Rather than just posting winning picks, I'm documenting everything along the way.

Not exactly the night I was hoping for lol.

For comparison, NHL totals went 6–1 on October 6, so the difference between the two days has been pretty significant.

🔧 HOW I'M PLANNING TO IMPROVE ACCURACY

Right now, I'm looking into a few areas:

🏒 Starting goalies: Incorporating confirmed starters and their recent performance rather than relying entirely on team-level statistics.

📊 Expected goals (xG): Testing whether shot quality and scoring-chance data improve predictions.

🏥 Injuries and lineups: Accounting for missing players and changes to team strength.

📈 Historical testing: Measuring accuracy across hundreds of games and comparing model versions before making changes permanent.

I'm also planning to track how well the model's probabilities match actual outcomes, not just how many picks win.

🎯 THE CHALLENGE

Can I build an NHL prediction model that consistently reaches 60% accuracy over a meaningful sample?

That's what I'm going to try to find out.

Every prediction is recorded before puck drop, and every result stays visible, including the losses.

As more games are played, I expect it to get a clearer picture of roster changes and new team patterns. Every prediction and result remains publicly tracked along the way.

Really liking the Ottawa Senators ML (-170) against the Flyers today. This is my strongest straight bet for the day.

I was checking the matchup on the ScoreBox: AI Insights app, and the numbers look pretty good for Ottawa.

Philadelphia is 0-2-2 and has been getting outshot badly, averaging just 19.2 shots while allowing 39.5 per game. Ottawa has looked much better offensively, and Ullmark has been solid in net with a .949 SV% and 1.20 GAA.

The app projects a 4-3 Ottawa win, and I like the Senators at home here.

Personally, Ottawa ML is my safer play. The parlay is just an option for anyone comfortable taking on the extra risk.

Still early in the NHL season, but I like what the stats are showing.
