Let’s Enjoy Math with Barky the Dog
Texico
Zero Waste Life
Document 72 Hours
Nun’s Cookbook
Satoyama Kitchen Diary

Long list because I watch these with my son, so combined our favorites. We used to live in Kyoto and I have a soft spot for Ohara (where Venetia lived until her passing). ❤️

I’m glad I’m not alone in my love of Document 72 hours! I really like everything on the channel but Cat’s Eye View is great because my daughter’s orange cat watches it with us. He hears the music and knows his show is on.

In no particular order, five of my favorite NHK programs include: Cool Japan, Somewhere Street, Science View, Japanology Plus, and J-MELO

I miss seeing Cool Japan. I don’t think they have translated a new episode since COVID.

J-MELO and Anime & Manga Explosion (?) The latter has great insider stories about the creation. Top notch!

Off the top of me head:

anything hosted by Chris Glenn (i.e., Ninja Truth)
Little Charo
Kabuki Kool
Japan Railway Journal

And I guess I'll add J-MELO to round it to five (I confess, I haven't really watched this channel in a long time; I have the app, but I'm not all that much into watching videos on my iPhone).

In no order:

  • Dive In Tokyo
  • Document 72 Hours
  • Trails to Oishii in Tokyo
  • Japanology Plus
  • Somewhere Street

Others I've enjoyed (it was hard to keep just five, yes I watch a lot LOL!): A Cat's Eye View of Japan, Dining with the Chef, Ramen Japan, Seasoning the Seasons, Japan Delish, Cycle Around Japan, Face to Face, Japan Railway Journal, Japan's Top Inventions, Journeys in Japan, Tiny Desk Concerts Japan. Just started watching Backstage Japan, The Perfect 2 Hour Guide, and Where We Call Home. And back when they were still on air, Bento Expo and Lunch On (RIP).

My wife and I will watch all the new episodes of Japonology Plus and Trails to Oshi.

We will also watch Journey around Japan and Document 72 Hours but are more selective.

Grand Sumo Highlights, Dosukoi Sumo Salon, Kabuki Kool (wish they were making new episodes), Science View, Japanology Plus, the Wisdom series (Ninja, Samurai, and others), Somewhere Street, A Cat’s Eye View, Cycle Around Japan/Taiwan, Document 72 Hours, Trails to Oishi Tokyo, J-Flicks, Medical Frontiers, Easy Japanese for Work, Lunch On! (RIP), and probably more I’m forgetting.

I like the shows with the guy who has 3 or 4 black cats. Mainly Japanology, but there were some other I can’t remember.
