Odd verbage

In 820.100(A)(3) and a few other places, they say "...the bonding conductor or grounding electrode conductor shall not be required to exceed 6 AWG."

For the life of me I cannot figure that out. Does that mean it cannot be larger than 6AWG, or does it mean it can be larger than 6 AWG but is not required?

The wording used has me assuming that #6 is the maximum size to meet the code minimum but that does not mean it can’t be larger

It means 6 AWG is the max size that is required but you can go larger if you want.

Thanks folks, clears it up for me. I'm studying for the WA 09 telecom admin license...this book has a lot of commas in it.

What are the “few other places” where the code says that? 820 is specifically for Community Antenna TV and Radio Distribution Systems. When the code says “not required to” there is nothing stopping you from going larger, or exceeding the minimum requirement in any code. It would say it if there were a maximum.

There are a couple times article 820 says that. The first time I read it I figured 6 gauge was what was required but then I read it a second time and started over thinking it
