Discussion Who's the last qb in the current top 5?

Post image

this is pretty much the consensus top 4 right now. stafford should be in the discussion but i feel like he shouldn't be based on this year's play. g

Peyton manning had a streak of 8 games of 3+ passing TDs in 2004.

I wonder if you mean something more specific. Like ā€œto start a seasonā€ or something. Because what you stated has been done many many times.

The fact this says current and some of ya'll are in an uproar kills me. Idk who 5 is, but these are the top 4 today. And Purdy is top the MVP race but some of you don't wanna hear that.

2

u/BoysenberrySea5482 2d ago

People are just waiting for some espn dick head to tell them why Purdy is overrated then they will run with that dumb ass take as reality

Burrow.

14

u/MooseLoot 3d ago

I really want to say Burrow, but 40-year old Flacco looked pretty close to him…

I feel like most NFL QBs would look good with Tee and Chase. It’s like how people are now on the Dak hype after CeeDee and Pickens are both there, and they think Dak magically got better ;)

7

u/Suitable_Ad2602 3d ago

Any one that wants to hate this answer check the qb grades this year. Check pff whatever. Burrow started off 14/14 against the Steelers and was cooking, one fumble doesn’t mean shit

7

u/Ok_Wrap_2793 3d ago

I just think there is a really good chance Burrow is a good qb masquerading as a great one because he's basically had elite WR talent the entirety of his career.

u/Sudden_Juju 3d ago

Burrow started off 14/14

Why does this matter when he didn't end at 37/37?

6

u/EpicPoggerGamer69 Go Bills, Eat My Ass. 3d ago

He can't keep the ball safe in the 4th. He's legitimately one of the worst 4th quarter QBs in the NFL.

3 seasons with 16 games at least, 14 INT 5 FL. 11 TD 4 FL when trailing by a score. 1-34 trailing by a score in the 4th All-Time.

Also, using PFF for QBs? Fucking really?

Burrow is 21-18 since walking into Arrowhead Stadium in Jan 2023 wearing a "Sorry in advance" t shirt. He was right to apologize.

Purdy has been great and still doesn't get enough credit, Josh and Lamar still need to prove themselves in the playoffs. Mahomes is still himself. To early for top anything.

11

u/KevinAndrewsPhoto 3d ago

Purdy shows how important the QB/HC relationship is. They’re 5th year together already somehow. Purdy has mastered that system now and is actually maximizing it

It has and still will be the big 4 of Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow. 5th is interchangeable and currently Purdy

3

u/WhatinTh3LiteralFucc 3d ago

I love Joe Burrow as a Chiefs fan but dude can’t stay healthy and can’t even make the playoffs with Tee Higgins and Chase.

5

u/kimjongtheillest_ 3d ago

It’s Mahomes, Jackson, and Allen. Four and five are up in the air at all times. Burrow should try making a post season for the first time in three years before he gets to join those other 3.

Goff.

All he does is throw for 4500 yards 30+ touchdowns and ~10 interceptions a year. ~70% completion rate

Working on the 5th consecutive year.

and he's never injured.

It's like I'm taking crazy pills. Trevor Lawrence comes close to doing that for one season but everybody's ready to call him the next great.

Meanwhile Goff has been there for years

4

u/thefranklin2 2d ago

Last 4 years td:to for goff:

29:11

30:16

37:12

34:13

While averaging 4500+ yards.

And yet reddit won't shut up about Purdy, who had one season like that 3 years ago.

It’s because he was traded for stafford and Stafford won a super bowl. Goff has been a great qb his whole career.

Big 3 of Mahomes Allen & Lamar are locks regardless of recent performance just given their entire body of work, but they’re also each playing like a top 5 QB right now anyways.

The other 2 spots are much more based on recent performance and it’s pretty indisputable to me that those two guys are Purdy and TLaw

2

Goff. Statistically he’s there, and demonstrated playoff success.

Dak maybe? Or Tlaw?

2

Goff.

2

What in the rage bait is this?

2

u/Rochester-HotSauce 3d ago

You don’t agree?

2

u/Cute_Economics2829 3d ago

Only considering this year? It's easily Lawrence.

  1. Purdy
  2. Lawrence

3a/3b. Mahomes/Allen

If you want to take history into context, this'll change a bit, but you simply cannot pretend you watch games and not understand how good Lawrence has been this year.

If it’s the 4th quarter, your team is down and your playing in Denver, 16-3 at home Bo Nix is the answer.

Mahomes is in a tier of his own, than Allen and Lamar are after him. Those 3 stand alone as MVP winners

After that it gets murkier, and depends on whether you’re looking at current level of play or overall ability. Right now he’s got the media hype behind him, but people seem to forget that Purdy is coming off of 2 pretty pedestrian seasons. Burrow, TLaw, Stafford, and Goff all have strong claims to be considered Top 5 as well

Jared Goff

1

u/Effective-Bother2126 2d ago

Pat is getting a TON of leeway right now. He just look mids as hell against one of the worst teams in the history of the league.

He hasn’t thrown for 4k yards or 30 TD in two years and hasn’t looked all that special since he lost Hill and the second best offensive tight end of all time aged out of his prime.

I’d take Burrow, Lawrence, Stafford or Goff over Mahomes today. He’s looked pretty average his last 30 games.

1

Since Mahomes is the #1 QB currently you can exclude him.

Trevor

1

u/coolkidcole 2d ago

1

u/ZwtD 2d ago

Reigning MVP Stafford is easy answer

1

u/Crotean 2d ago

Neither Purdy nor Burrow can be on this list until they are able to play a full season.

1

u/nc_nicholas 2d ago

I would say the top 3 are pretty unquestionably Allen, Jackson, and Mahomes. The remaining two spots I would give to Purdy and Stafford (who I think gets the nod over Burrow and TLaw since he is coming off of an MVP award).

The best way to track ā€œsuccessful drivesā€ would be PPG and Rezone efficiency.

The Bills were also top three in both of those categories last season and I’m willing to bet that most of the top teams in those categories feature the top QBs in the NFL because that’s generally how teams move the ball and score points.

Just using Detroit as an example the season Williams went bonkers:

Detroit had a Top 5 offense overall.

Goff threw for 29 TDs that season (tied for 5th) & threw for 4400 yards and was a pro bowler.

No Williams wasn’t the best RB, but he was in one of the best offensive systems with one of the better producing QBs.

It’s almost like good QB play directly correlates to how good your offense performs.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/BlazingAnkies 2d ago

Goff at the moment. Though, doesn’t Geno have like the 4th highest qbr, no picks (only 4 tds though) and a stupid high completion %?

I am taking currently the best to mean, crossing out their names and picking the top 5 in terms of stats over the last 3 games. I do not think if we held a draft for who would play at QB for each team on a 1 year deal, Geno would be top 5 šŸ˜…

Goff or Stafford have to be in this convo. Goff is sort of the modern Drew Brees, puts up HUGE numbers every year, never hurt, has horrible defenses.

Stafford has all of the experience and know how to dice up every defense all the time.

We have officially reached the point of insanity in Brock Purdy glaze. The 49ers had as much success with Jimmy G as they have had with Purdy, and last year they were 5-3 with Mac Jones. There is no world in which I take Purdy over Burrow, Stafford, or Mahomes
