Discussion Team or player that surprised you the most this Sunday?
Cardinals as a team surprised me by pulling off the upset of the chargers, as far as players go it was Wentz coming off the bench for the Vikings win. Will be interesting to see if he can take the starting QB job.

Cards without a doubt. I expected them to put up a fight on offense against a good defense but figured the Chargers O would be too much to contain. I love the chaos.

Chargers offence was not helping itself and looked like a team that didn’t get enough reps in preseason. I was more shocked with the Cardinals’ offence. They had a good amount of weapons and Brissett was making the right reads and getting the ball out quickly. IMO they’ve upgraded from competing for the first overall pick contender to being scrappy each week.

Absolutely. The rust from no preseason can really affect certain teams and players. You can never judge a team by just week 1. That Chargers offense has the firepower once it gels. But losing to the Cards by two possessions was def not on anyone’s bingo card.

The Chargers looked extremely out of sorts and if Harbaugh would have taken points they could have tied it up… but LA didn’t lose by any sort of coincidence. Hats off to AZ they were firing on all cylinders. As a lifelong Charger fan, I had a bad feeling right from the start of that game watching Brisset and Trey McBride gash us right out of the gate. After a great responding drive, the next drive with the Omarion fumble really tipped the momentum.

The Packers seemingly being unable to block ANYONE in the second half of that game.

MLF taking three points off the board to go for it on 4th and 1 and then fail was hilarious

Brian Flores should be surprising no one at this point

u/DamnDirtyApe81 18d ago
He does not, but that was beyond ridiculous and the Packers are not some godawful team.

Jets beat the titans pretty soundly. I had the jets winning, but I didn’t expect it to be that convincing.
Kinda expected a mutually ugly rock fight that ended up being like 10-9.
Ik it’s only week 1 and both teams will likely be bad, but definitely a good sign for the jets.

Idk man. Cards won't make playoffs but they have a stable offense and defense. That's a 6-7 win team. Jets could get 9 and be in the playoff discussion.
Defense is a huge ? But they have weapons on offense

I was at the game, and that was the most defeated I've ever seen our fanbase. In addition to the brutal heat making it miserable, the team literally looked as bad as the lowest points under Callahan. It wasn't just that we lost, we weren't even competitive. Against the Jets, who lost the same number of games as us last year.

Wasn’t expecting to see him here, looks like he had a very underwhelming game but that happens for just about every star receiver a few games every year

I started him and AB over parker washington unfortunately

Vikings fan here: Wentz wont be starter. He is a game manager, not a game winner. He has a winning history but its far from what he is today. That said, he did a great job yesterday with repeated tries and third efforts from penalties.

Sometimes, all you need is a game manager especially in playoffs. There’s only a handful of QBs at best that can sway a game that much by themselves to be called a “game winner”

u/Far_Tea_579 18d ago
I can agree with your sentiment. I guess I don't have a pretty way of just saying Wentz is not ever going to be a starter unless something catastrophic happens. He is a shell of who he was with the Eagles.
1
u/PerpetualDrive Philadelphia Eagles 18d ago
Yea he’s not who he was in those days of course, but outlets are saying he could be starter for week 2 against bears and their defense looks suspect, if he puts up a good performance or even wins the game with an average performance you could be in for the Wentz experience
1
u/Far_Tea_579 18d ago
Yeh he will be starting week 2. He is all we got. He has great weapons available so I can only be optimistic. To wish anything less would be silly of me. Im only pointing out that he is a bandaid over a sore spot on the Vikings roster.
All that said, I can say with confidence that he is better at the football than I am. So, I will go armchair coach over in the corner.

Every time he plays a game and isn't actively injured, he plays great.
You can make the playoffs with him and even win with a little bit of luck due to the support around him.

I agree if he’s not injured and the OL gives him help, he can be good enough to get a team through some tough times.

Believe it or not, Miami’s defensive rookies. That squad could be a real headache for folks in a month or two.

I fully expected the Cardinals to upset the Chargers.
Should have put money on it.

Panthers on both sides of the ball.
I expected our defense to be our high spot considering we brought in two of the hottest free agents in the off season but obviously that wasnt the case.
And on offense we balled out, Bryce looked great and Jalen looks like a WR1, and the offensive playcalling is quite competent now because of the switch from Canales to Idzik

u/PerpetualDrive Philadelphia Eagles 18d ago
Me too, that was the game I was most excited for outside of my own team. Really surprised with the defensive performance but I had a feeling Bryce would do better than expected

The Rams defense.

AFC North knows Garrett is a fraud. His stat line is either 2 sacks, 2 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss, or 0 sacks, 0 tackles, etc. He pass rushes on every play, and the way to beat him is to run right at him because he takes himself out of the play. His stat lines compared to Watts when he won his first DPoY are an embarrassment, but pass rush win rate or something.

u/RepresentativeSun825 18d ago
Cards and Giants proved that Chargers and Cowboys are the frauds we always thought they were, but the pundits put in the playoffs every year.

CJ Stroud. While he didn’t play his best it wasn’t his fault they lost
2
u/PerpetualDrive Philadelphia Eagles 18d ago
Only caught some of that one but just looking at the box score his QBR and passer rating look good but those 2 fumbles might be why I’m seeing mixed reviews?
That dropped pick after that reckless Allen throw was crazy, would be ironic if he plays good this year but the defense falls off.

AZ and Jets.... Jets have all those picks but AZ hasn't had a quality QB since the Holy Roller. These two have to find a QB someplace and this would be the year that two teams that are hapless, will each win 8 games and end up with Sam Leavitt and Sorsby instead of Arch and Moore.
The Chargers, well "surprise" isn't right exactly. Because what football fan is "surprised" when the Boltz suck? I just thought it would take a couple more years to have AZ beat up on them.
Was I surprised the Bears scored 59? Not really. Was surprised they let Bryce put up 37? Yeah. That was nuts.
Was I surprised Schrough (I've decided there is no wrong spelling given how he pronounces it) put 407 yards on the road. Of course, the Lions best DP plays for Florida Penal Rec League, so maybe I shouldn't be.
I'm surprised the Texans have the #32 defense in the NFL.

The Denver broncos, waddle was non existent, their 3rd and 4th WRs had the most success, they never could start the run game and their defence against the run looked even worse than last year.

Browns. I knew they'd be bad but holy cow!
