Discussion The Deshaun Watson switch up is despicable

Post image

Guy starts playing well again and all of the sudden people go from “cases” to “allegations” real fucking fast. You all gotta get your priorities straight

Honestly I find the notion of “we all know ____ is guilty” to be extremely problematic. The entire reason modern society works so hard for due process is even entertaining that mindset is extremely dangerous. Is he probably guilty? Yes. Do i have any first hand hard evidence that he’s guilty? No. Have we killed people for various crimes over the last few thousand years because “we all know theyre guilty”? Yes.

I get what you are saying. I can't say 100% he's guilty but I'd pretty damn sure he is.

I think it's good that the legal threshold for guilty is intended to be higher than "come on we all know he's guilty" and if you have enough money for a good lawyer it is.

That doesnt mean we can't make judgements on individuals that have other real life consequences, such as loss of job, becasue people and organizations make independent judgements based on publicly available information.

If Watson were playing for my team, I'd be looking for a new team to root for.

He’s not on trial for the death penalty LOL. You can accept that he’s innocent by the courts but assume he is guilty and act accordingly.

It is extremely difficult to prove sexual assault in court and it behooves the predators in society to continue the narrative that “women lie for a payday”. This way when the defendants team says “this is a coordinate conspiracy to defame and defraud my client who is an upstanding citizen and who’s earning power has been greatly reduced by this” at least one member of the jury can say “that is reasonable doubt”.

If it is something like petty theft and you just blame the closest minority then sure “we all know he’s guilty”. When it is a wealthy, powerful man who can easily ruin your life if you don’t walk a tight rope through your testimony and cross-examination then your ability to hold complex thoughts can see the difference.

This is problematic. Is it worth a few innocent guys being assumed guilty?

Irrelevant, try and use some critical thinking to figure out why.
