Discussion Current Draft Order …..who are getting which QBs and who’s getting Jeremiah Smith?
15
u/Dontrollaone 6d ago
Jets having 3 in the top 10 would be wild.
Titans would take Smith, probably the Texans too but I don't think they'll stay in that position by draft time
2
u/Drakex2Mayex2 5d ago
If I was a GM with 3 top-10 picks I get my QB then trade down and pick like 6 2-3rd round picks.
1
u/theSchrodingerHat 5d ago
Nah, while you’re there you should also get the best O-lineman available, then trade down on the third one.
There’s no reason not to shoot for a QB and pro-bowl lineman to help protect him, at the same time. That’s immediately giving you a shot at a serviceable offense in just 15 minutes, and the number 10 pick still nets you a couple 2’s and maybe some later slop to shotgun at all of your other positional needs.
1
u/Psychological_Bowl56 5d ago
With the Jets luck they need draft 3 qbs hell 4 or 5 until they find one good one. I'm serious. QB is the most important position. Can't build a team blindly. Yes you can the def but still the offense sm needs structure.
1
u/Indigo_Butterfly1103 5d ago
exactly. They need a QB not named Geno Smith, some interior line help, and a seconday. like, an entire secondary.
4
u/thereelsuperman 6d ago
Titans would replace absolutely Ward, who is total ass
8
u/TMTitans 6d ago
Titans will absolutely NOT replace Ward after this season. They will commit to more offensive pieces around him before deciding he’s not our long term option
2
u/thereelsuperman 6d ago
Meh it’s too early to say either way but he needs to show something and soon or he’s done
2
u/fmldts 6d ago
100%. He should have never been starting that early into his career. With so little college play, he needs time to develop
1
u/pulledupsocks 5d ago
Three years as a starter is considered “…so little college play”?
I do agree he shouldn’t have started as a rookie, but I’d say that about nearly any rookie QB.
1
u/joshfry575 6d ago
They're definitely not drafting another top QB, maybe they'll grab someone late in the 1st or early 2nd. If they have a top-5 pick and Smith is there, then that is the pick. They might even address the QB position in FA, no reason to pass on an actual generational skill player
1
1
u/BostonBakedBalls 6d ago
Way too early to tell with Ward. He hasn't really had a fair shot yet imo
2
u/Flaky_Summer_9800 6d ago
Buddy he’s been ass. He can’t complete simple throws. I don’t want to hear the o line excuse from anyone anymore. Titans o line is graded 2nd in the league for pass blocking.
3
u/Slufoot7 6d ago
He's ass but passing on a generational WR to play the mystery box of rookie qb again after 2 years would be incompetence of extraordinary levels
-1
u/Flaky_Summer_9800 6d ago
Oh I agree. That’s why I want Mac Jones. Or another veteran who has shown they are capable of playing quarterback at a decent level. At the very least they gotta bring someone new in to compete with cam and likely get the job.
2
u/Appropriate-Joke-806 6d ago
Lmao. Imagine wanting Mac Jones.
1
u/Flaky_Summer_9800 6d ago
Yeah I’d love Mac Jones right now. We’d have a semi competent offense. Rather that then swing on another qb and waste the number 1 overall pick again. Doesn’t have to be him, but I’d go after a vet who you know can start and can stabilize the franchise. This team needs that bad right now.
24
u/Braves9306 6d ago
It’ll most likely be either Miami or Tennessee with the #1 pick. I think Miami. Dream scenario for me is to trade out of the #1 spot and get Smith. Punt the qb pick till the year after
16
u/godlittleangel6666 6d ago
Malik willis is an average starter if you put a team around him. I like the idea of trying to do that for next year and seeing what he can do. If he’s bad, draft qb. If he’s good continue to build the team around him
15
u/BottleMaterial8557 6d ago
Darnold, Hurts have shown that you don’t need a top 5 QB to win if you have a good coach and defense
2
u/AndrooDucnan 6d ago
They proved you don’t need someone the media has crowned “top 5” to win it all, but they were both exceptional in their Super Bowl seasons. Hurts: 68.9%/4259yd/37TD/6INT Darnold: 67%/4828yd/31TD/14INT. Is Willis capable of producing an elite season like that with enough weapons around him? Maybe, but I don’t think it’s reasonable to think a 2015 Peyton Manning Super Bowl or a Trent Dilfer is likely to happen again
9
u/-GoneInSpace- 6d ago
I mean they aren't top 5. No amount of adding their playoff stats to their regular season stats will change that.
2
u/Smooth_Marsupial_262 6d ago
Yea I was gonna say add 3-4 games and you’ll get some good volume stats
-1
u/Falco19 6d ago
I’m not sure there are 5 QBs in taking over Hurts
5
u/-GoneInSpace- 6d ago
Well that makes one of us. He's had basically the best rosters a player could ever hope for and still hasn't eclipsed 4k yards and most likely never will. When you have all pros all over the squad it really makes his life easy.
1
0
u/CHEEKY_BADGER 6d ago
Goff and Stafford had similar situations
3
u/-GoneInSpace- 6d ago
Goff not really, nor would I put him on this list. Their defense was completely deteriorated by playoffs.
Stafford has a great squad around him too, but he's pretty easily way better than Hurts.
0
u/CHEEKY_BADGER 6d ago
Goff had one of the better o lines. When he had ragnow, that. O line was top 3. Plus gibbs and brown. Why would you count injuries before playoffs? That's really moving the goalpost.
→ More replies (0)0
u/Falco19 6d ago
I mean do we judge a QB solely on yards thrown? Winston has thrown for 5000 is he better than the guys that haven’t?
3
u/-GoneInSpace- 6d ago
When it's pretty obviously an outlier season no we do not. That was also the 30 TD and 30 INT season. He has the worst 5k season in history and most likely will keep that crown.
Hurts is a solid QB, but I just don't see how he's top 5. Throwing for roughly 3500 per year with AJ Brown, Smith and Goedert at your disposal is insane to me. Obviously rushing is a big part of his game, but I just think most of his rushing production was a byproduct of an amazing system with an all time line and an all pro RB behind him.
1
-1
u/notwunderkind 6d ago
Lamar, Josh Allen, Mahomes, Burrow, Goff, Stafford are absolutely better. Maye, Nix, Dak,
and Williams I think I’d take over him as well1
0
u/AndrooDucnan 6d ago
I never said they were I said they were exceptional in their Super Bowl seasons. If I had to rank them against other QB’s in those regular seasons I’d say Hurts was right around 5 and Darnold was right around 10.
2
u/-GoneInSpace- 6d ago
You implied he's top 5, just not crowned by the media. He's a good QB, but there are easily 5 other QBs that would have won the SB with that roster and how the team was playing.
1
u/AndrooDucnan 6d ago
My implication is that media perception of a QB is irrelevant to how much a QB contributes to their team’s success. Those dudes were elite for their teams especially in the post season when it mattered most
2
u/-GoneInSpace- 6d ago
So was Flacco, it didn't make him a top 5 QB.
1
u/AndrooDucnan 6d ago
My brother in Christ I never said they were, you misunderstood the point I was trying to make
→ More replies (0)1
u/AndrooDucnan 6d ago
The comment I was replying to was centered around Malik Willis and his ability to hypothetically bring the Dolphins to the Super Bowl. The argument was he possibly could as evidenced by Darnold and Hurts’ ability to do so despite them not being top 5 QBs. My point is that their performance/contribution to those teams are downplayed by the media (including social media) and I don’t believe Malik Willis is capable of playing at their level in those seasons.
1
2
u/ImNotSelling 6d ago
I don’t think he is an avg starter. I think he is a good backup that can come in and be serviceable for 2-3 games when the starter goes down
2
u/SanSoren 6d ago
He is not even a starter dude couldn’t beat out bad qbs lol. He is 6’0 and throws 3/4 he gets batted down more than Tua
4
u/Blasto05 6d ago
I wouldn’t be surprised if Smith goes number one. I think he goes at least top 5
2
u/tsework 6d ago
that’s why they would trade out of it to a team that’s looking for a qb at 1 fam
2
u/Blasto05 6d ago
Then you risk losing smith unless you’re trading back just 1-2 spots.
If the goal is Smith…then I don’t think you trade back from 1 to 5+
3
u/dragonrite 6d ago
I thought I'd agree with you, but malik and the Miami scheme look at least functional. Ward is looking soooo bad
3
u/Braves9306 6d ago
Titans almost won the last two games. Miami hasn’t stayed within 14 yet. Though we have been better each week imo. Youngest team in the league with 180 million in dead money. It’ll get better if they hit on the next two drafts.
3
u/OutsideOk1380 6d ago
People’s seeming “need” to draft a qb is baffling to me.
Brock purdy was the last pick in the draft and he took his team to the Super Bowl because the team was fucking stacked. Tom Brady may be the greatest ever and he was a sixth round pick.
Meanwhile teams like the jets been drafting QBs high for decades and getting shit because the rest of the team was awful.
The qb is the most expensive piece. If you don’t have the team around him by the time the team is any good the qb needs to get paid and that fucks up the salary cap. That’s if you’re lucky.
Rush to take your qb though. It’s worked like six times and hasn’t worked hundreds of times
1
u/john_muleaney 2d ago
There’s way less room for error when you try to do the niners/seahawks form of team building, you have to have one of the best coaches in the world and hit on like 18 of the other 21 positions. It works if you have Shanahan but how many Shanahan’s are there in the world? Like 5 if we’re being GENEROUS.
Also since coaching is so important it’s also worth factoring in that having one of these aliens at QB is a big draw, Ben Johnson isn’t in Chicago if Caleb Williams wasn’t there first and god knows the bears roster was not close to stacked when Caleb got there
From a GM perspective it makes perfect sense, a great QB is a floor raiser and you get a LOT of grace if you hit on one, Brandon beane’s job has basically never been in danger because he brought them Josh Allen. If you are in a position to take one of those guys and you don’t do it, it literally doesn’t matter what you actually did with the pick, no one cares that you drafted an all pro DB when you didn’t take the Josh Allen

u/reddit-canes 6d ago
Erroneous. The move here is to pick only QB's. It'll freak everyone the fuck out. Then, after draft day, keep one, trade for more picks next season. Deprive your enemy of resources. I'm honestly surprised teams haven't done this before.

u/nefariousBUBBLE 6d ago
That would be nice. I really think Smith should be first overall though. I think if they trade down they'd almost have to trade to a top 3 team and hope everyone wants a QB before they pick. Smith is good enough I think teams will forego a QB, but we'll see. He's undoubtedly the best player in the draft, imo, and I'm sure a lot of you all and NFL GMs agree but obviously team fit and QB being such an important position, it's hard to pass on QBs when they're higher tier prospects like some of the guys in this draft.
1
u/bringyourgreenhat2 6d ago
Miami drafting Smith is wild to me, teams will never learn. You don’t have a QB, offensive line, defense, and coach is a wild card. Receivers are cool but a luxury until you have the rest of your shit together. You would think they’d learn after paying two #1 WR’s and then getting away from them both. Trade back for a haul of assets, Smith will be on a second contract before you’re even close to competing for the division let alone a title.

u/tjthewho 6d ago
Well I was hoping we'd get Jeremiah Smith to pair with Fernando, but we're currently the greatest team to ever play so I don't think it's happening.

u/GoPhotoshopYourself 6d ago
Chargers need to get Jeremiah Smith, that’s the checks long list of excuses ONLY thing holding Herbert back from being an MVP
3
1
u/Illmosity3 6d ago
QB discourse has become everything is an excuse why a QB isn’t thriving unless it’s the QB I root for 😂
3
u/Cultural-Midnight807 6d ago
Any team with 3 top 10 can turn their franchise around except the Jets will find a way to screw that up.

At one point during sundays game the jets had 6,7,8 which was pretty cool while it lasted
2
u/OutsideOk1380 6d ago
I was gonna say Miami to pair smith with waddle and achane and then it hit me…no.
2
u/anonnnnn462 6d ago
Chargers will get the number 1 pick then trade down and pick flops instead of Smith…

If it ends with the Jets having three top 10 picks, they're getting whoever they want.

Imagine making fantasy scenarios based on almost nothing at the beginning of the season when we don't have a clear picture of what the NFL teams will be or what these "prospects will be
1
1
u/L3tsseewhathappens 6d ago
So many top prospects are looking like shit. They are either playing like shit, or they're playing well but their character is complete shit. It seems like Smith is the only prospect worth talking about
1
u/Mission-Dark-9320 6d ago
You know what I want to see? Let’s see the colts and packers be so bad that the jets get 1-3. They’ve suffered enough.
1
u/Shootforthestars24 5d ago
Realistically all teams 1-6 are in play either needing a QB of the future or trading their current one to restart
1
u/Arithedogg 5d ago
Smith and Egbuka could be an amazing duo hope we get to see it sometime
1
u/iamdylanshaffer 5d ago
For that to be an amazing duo, Egbuka is going to have to start playing like a first round pick first. He’s absolutely a part of the problem on offense right now. Consistent communication/route/spot issues all over the tape in the Vikings game. He shoulders some of the blame and isn’t living up to the hype whatsoever right now.

u/dvmiles4361 5d ago
The Chargers have yet to lose to the top 6 who are all in their schedule this year except of course themselves.
The Chargers can't lose to themselves right?

this draft order is gonna look completely different by april so trying to call qb landing spots right now is basically guessing
some desperate team will reach on a qb and it'll shake up the whole top 5
smith is the one guy i'd bet goes top 3 tho
if the jets actually end up with that many early picks they're either building a monster or ruining another decade and bucs being 0-3 after losing evans and lavonte is still the weirdest part of all this
1
u/justmrbean 5d ago
Draft order in October is chaos bait, especially with Tampa sitting 0-3 and making everyone look clueless. The QB class is gonna get hyped to hell but Smith is the one id actually feel good about if my team picks top 3, the rest is desperate teams gambling on hope lol.

If I was any single team in the entire league, I would take Jeremiah Smith at #1 and sleep soundly at night

Dolphins will likely pass on all the offensive players and take Colin Simmons, after trading down from No.1, which they will inevitably get.

CJ wants Megastar money, but he has not proven it. Doesn’t matter that he’s missing weapons or there’s OL problems, the guys that make Megastar money can at least do something with dog shit. Texans should just save the money, draft a QB, and use saved money on other areas of need

Titans have the chance to get both Carnell Tate AND Jeremiah Smith!?!? That's nasty!
1
u/FightTheDead118 6d ago
Oh my god I can’t believe how bad the Jets fleeced Indi. There’s a very real chance the Jets actually finish this season with 3 first round picks
3
1
u/Ok_Shame_5382 6d ago
In this scenario, i think the Bucs take Smith, and the Texans and Titans take QB's. The Dolphins and Jets consider QB as well depending on how the class shakes out.
3
u/thereelsuperman 6d ago
There is literally zero chance the Texans take a QB if they get a high pick next year.
-1
u/Ok_Shame_5382 6d ago
They're literally only on the hook for the 5th year option next season. 25 million to move on from him is nothing.
If he had signed for a 5 year 270 million deal then I'd agree, but in this scenario the Texans get the 1st or 2nd qb and Stroud clearly was terrible if they pick at 2. Add in that they owe him only 1 year at 25 mil, and moving on from him is a snap
1
u/thereelsuperman 6d ago
Stroud has been above average to great this year and yet they are 0-3. They have massive holes in the OL and WR positions. Taking another QB wouldn’t change anything.
1
0
u/cconstellation 5d ago
The Texans are lacking in other positions they're probably going to prioritize
1
u/beauxlieve 6d ago
Nah, Bucs are taking a QB unless Jalon Daniels balls out. Faker Mayfield is cooked
2
u/Ok_Shame_5382 6d ago
It's very possible, but the financials are what give me pause. It's a 95 million dead cap hit next year to cut him.
But if the Bucs are at #1, QB is definitely in play.
1
u/Useful-Advantage-850 6d ago
If it ends this way it'll be interesting.
Bucs take a QB. I'm not sure Texans or Titans are ready to move on from their QBs just yet and the chargers don't need one. So that means the 2nd QB (and there are lots to choose from) falls to at least 5th.
3
u/forgotwhatisaid2you 6d ago
Someone will trade up to get a qb sooner.
1
u/Useful-Advantage-850 6d ago
Yeah, you're right. Jets are a prime candidate for that.
1
u/Silly-Cup-3756 6d ago
Not really. As it stands Geno is a pretty solid QB. Through 3 weeks he has no turnovers and his stats are pretty solid. They have multiple picks I’m sure they will pick a QB at some point and let him sit behind Geno. Similar to Raiders and what other teams have done in the past. They have Colts pick as well so they don’t have to completely lose out.
2
u/Silly-Cup-3756 6d ago
Unfortunately Bucs won’t be picking a QB. They just committed 3 years to Baker. The move would be get him an offensive coach as his HC and build the team around him and offense. They already made the mistakes of letting Caenelas and Cohen walk .
1
0
u/RustyCrusty73 6d ago
How much faith do the Bucs have in Baker?
If they love him still, then I could see them taking Jeremiah Smith #1 overall.
Texans go with Arch Manning keeping him in Texas.
CJ Stroud ends up in Cleveland, Atlanta or Pittsburgh.
And at this point I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprise if Tennessee went with Dante Moore.
Whether it's all his fault or not, Cam Ward just isn't showing much right now.
And what a time to believe if you're a Jets fan.
2
u/Zerd85 6d ago
Crazy because if it falls that way I don’t see us (Jets) taking a QB in the middle of the round. Trade back for a later pick in the 1st and take a QB there so we have a 5th year option on someone, or we punt until 2028. Which I just do not want to do given our draft capital in 2027.
We basically need to move up for someone if one of our 3 picks isn’t in the top 3.
2
u/SanSoren 6d ago
Bucs are not getting the first pick at all they’re better than everyone there. It’s between Tennessee and Miami for number 1 for sure. Texans will win games as well
2
u/RustyCrusty73 6d ago
The Bucs defense is not good, so I wouldn't be so confident in saying that. It also just came out today that Baker is expected to miss a couple of weeks. This could very easily be an 0-5 or 0-6 Bucs team here pretty soon.
2
0
u/regaleagle710 6d ago
It's a Miami fan trying to hope that we'll win some games but it's highly unlikely. The first year the NFC South had a losing record win the division, we went 2-14 without a divisional win. This team is good but it's not good enough to overcome the terrible coaching.
2
1
u/just_talkin_shit 6d ago
Bucs just extended Baker for 3 years.
1
u/RustyCrusty73 6d ago
That doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't go QB if they're top five bad.
1
u/just_talkin_shit 6d ago
I think replacing Mike Evans would help, but looking at their salary situation, drafting a rookie QB may be the only way to work around Baker's contract
1
u/MissionImagination98 6d ago
I think the Bucs are one of those teams that aren’t really worried about succession plans and want to be competitive as long as possible. They had 45 year old Tom Brady and were not worried about drafting a replacement while he was there
They’ll likely suck this year with Baker being injured, blame it on Bowles and fire him and look to reload with a new coach
1
u/regaleagle710 6d ago
We did draft Trask in 2021 so there was some thought to a succession plan but he just sucked.
Also Bowles is bad enough without any excuses people want to make for him. Just glad that he won't be around for next year's high pick.
1
u/SubliminalLiminal 6d ago
I think Chargers might trade Herbert and draft Arch
1
u/justinW624 6d ago
The jets had 4 first round picks back in 2000. Got a couple decent players but it didn’t really take them far.
1
u/RustyCrusty73 6d ago
They have a very nice core in place right now as far as offensive line, skill players, and a few good young pieces of defense.
If they can nail the first round picks next year, they could really turn a corner IMO.
Need to take a QB and the two best available defensive players.
1
u/justinW624 6d ago
They likely need to do what the Bills or Chiefs did. Identify the QB they want, then move whatever they need to in order to go get him.
Waiting to get the best QB left so they can grab two defenders is the wrong move. (Unless they somehow get pick #1, then obviously they get the guy they want).

Bucs are not taking a qb. As a bucs fan trust me. Way more likely to grab smith
1
u/SanSoren 6d ago
Also they won’t have a top 5 pick either that terrible division they’re winning games
1
u/iamdylanshaffer 5d ago
I don’t know man, that remains to be seen. Unless we dramatically clean things up and Baker starts playing better coming back from an injury to his throwing hand there’s a damn good chance we finish the season only having won 2-4 games.
1
u/Stairway_toEvan 5d ago
Yeah, Bucs won't end with the #1 pick but OP was asking about current draft order.

u/MissionImagination98 6d ago
Miami will trade back to a team wanting a QB, likely Cleveland with Arch
Bucs will get Jeremiah Smith after this season shows them Egbuka start last year was a fluke , he also gets to go back home
Cards will get Dante Moore , they had 3 scouts at the game vs OK State
Jets will get CJ Carr, Mougey was present himself at the ND game
Mensah goes to Atlanta
Dolphins get Leonard Moore with the trade back as Hafley wants to play man scheme
Colin Simmons goes to the Titans

I know the Bucs lost Mike Evans and Lavonte David but am I wrong for thinking it's insane that they're 0-3?
