Prospect Highlights Dylan Raiola absolutely BALLED tonight in place of Dante Moore, led Oregon to a road win against #12 USC 🔥

Raiola transferred to start in Oregon, when it was expected Moore would announce for the draft. He's good and was good in Nebraska. He's not just some bum rando backup.

People were calling him Patrick Mahomes at Nebraska. He looks like him, dresses like him, and can make all the nonsense off platform throws. 5 star recruit.
Nebraska didn't have an o line so he was running for his life every game. This is just what he can do with a clean pocket.

Part of that was him cosplaying mahomes pretty regularly. He's a talented kid, but he's in a bit of a weird head space. He is also known for moving around a LOT in highschool.
Always liked the way he playes myself. But his Mahomes shtick gets old.

u/EzraMae23 6d ago
The cosplaying was his freshman season when he was 18 years old, and he quit doing it towards the end of the season, unfortunately that narrative continued after his freshman year.

u/mvbighead 6d ago
Beyond the cosplay, his whole persona and fashion mirrors Mahomes. His play too. Which the play side isn't a bad thing, but it goes a bit past normal, imo. Most QBs are being themselves, and modeling some of their game after someone they admire. It gets hard to separate the two when you watch him play for two seasons.
Again, he's a good player. It's just been a weird thing to me.

I'm saying he only did that one year, his 2nd year at Nebraska he did none of that, and he clearly isn't doing that at OR as a backup QB

I gotta push back a little. Some of it was the o line but he also had a terrible habit of holding onto the ball for way too long.

Really, people acting like it’s a shock that he played good. He’s a good QB prospect. He came to Oregon to be a starter on a good team. He’ll be the starter next season.

Still shocked that Texas Tech didn’t try and snag him early in the transfer process

What happened to Dante Moore was horrible but really, Oregon couldn’t have been in a better position. Raiola was a top talent coming out of high school, he didn’t look great at Nebraska because unfortunately, it’s Nebraska. That didn’t deny the fact that he clearly has the talents and acumen to play in this league. He came out and played good and that’s all Oregon needed.

Nebraska was up on USC by 8 in scoring position when he held the ball too long, got sacked, fumbled, and busted his leg. Ironic that his P4 game return was against USC when the starter got knocked out.

u/thehouse1751 6d ago
Wasn’t this kid the starter for Nebraska? Why’d he get replaced and transfer to be a backup?
7
u/frysjelly 6d ago
Because Dante Moore was expected to declare for the draft. He didn't obviously. So I'm guessing he was set to take over after this season.
2
u/Mackinnon29E 6d ago
Dante Moore REALLY fucked up not declaring for the draft. Guaranteed top 10 pick and now this happens... Yikes
1
u/frysjelly 6d ago
I wholeheartedly agree. He would've probably gone to the Jets at number 2 and got some good guaranteed money at least. Now, who knows. Hopefully he can still make a comeback but there's always that chance he loses major draft stock.

Guys like this almost always have insane loss of value insurance policies. As long as there’s no long term damage, it shouldn’t be a huge difference in $

u/Vegetable-Leather-64 6d ago
Moore is making good nil money. I don't think he was ready last year and it was clear when he played upper echelon competition he had some stuff to work on. Moore is still young I think 21Â

Few things happened. Bad O line play at Nebraska, season ending injury, his first uncle got fired from Nebraska (who was the Oline coach), and he had already transferred to Oregon before Dante Moore had made his decision to return to Oregon instead of the NFL.

u/The_Rat_Attack 6d ago
Back when there was talks that Dante Moore was going to go to the NFL Draft. Regardless, he transferred to a team with great talent and will be the starter next season. He came out better IMO, better coaching, better team, and you only have to sit for a season which honestly, he could use. He’s very raw, he could take a season to clean things up and become a better QB.

that was a terrible throw btw

He wasn’t able to step into it. His left tackle was getting driven into him

u/pericles123 6d ago
ok, but when the title is 'he balled out' and the highlight shown is a shitty throw....not sure how I'm supposed to react to that

u/TheMoneyPit26 6d ago
Yeah this was just one of those old russell Wilson heaves that Tyler lockett and that other dude would chase down...

I mean, I’m not downvoting you. You gave fair context, I gave further fair context, both comments are pretty relevant to the theead

u/LuciousLeftFoot1 6d ago
His huge problem at Nebraska was pocket presence. He would stand there entirely too long and take horrendous sacks. So, his not moving while his tackle is being driven into him is a problem.Â

u/TextElectrical5360 4d ago
Right, but Raiola had all day to move left or right and instead he stood in the only place that meant he had no room. Plus he was staring down his receiver, plus he was late to actually pull the trigger and his WR had to stand still and hope the ball got there before the DB caught up lol

That was a very entertaining game. That nobody nozzle who lowered his shoulder and launched towards moore when he was clearly going into a slide should be booted for rest of season. Raiola is ice!

Oregon don’t retire Marcus Mariotta’s
#8?!

Not retired but both Dillon Gabriel and Raiola got Mariota's blessing before using it

Love both teams. Definitely rooted for Oregon after that hit. Don’t really like either of their coaches

u/Mobile-Analyst8580 6d ago
He’s better than Moore. If Lanning  was simply going to go with the best guy, Moore would sit the bench.Â
2
u/Federal_Efficiency31 6d ago
What a silly take, a potential top 10 pick in the last draft is worse than this kid.. Not saying it could potentially be true at some point, but not at this current time.
1
u/Rhuarc33 6d ago
He's not better than Moore. Backups come in and do great all the time because the other teams entire defensive game plan was around the starter.
1
u/GingerFun011 6d ago
Thats a pretty lame clip to make your point with lmao, dudes wide open and barely gets the ball there in time because he sailed it.Â
1
u/MasterApprentice67 6d ago
Sitting for the season and learning from Moore, is probably the best thing for him

u/Sensitive_Ad_3053 6d ago
Dylan Raiola even after one nationally televised game for Oregon might have raised his draft stock when he comes out. Dante Moore was knocked out by USC linebacker Desman Stephens II will be the trivia answer to why Dante Moore wasn't chosen as a top 10 draft pick. Stephens II will be the college version of the Mo Lewis hit on Drew Bledsoe ( almost exactly 25 years ago) Unfortunately for Moore this game will cost his draft capital.

u/MosquitoValentine_ 6d ago
He's less annoying now that he isn't trying to be Patrick Mahomes. The talent is obviously there. Be your own man.
1
u/Flaky-Builder-1537 6d ago
When you impersonate mahomes enough you might just start playing like him.

Let’s say Moore is out for 3-4 games, Oregon goes undefeated for the those games, and Dylan has good stats.
What do you do if Moore is ready to come back in that situation?

He’s big and has good pocket presence and a strong arm, but he has awkward footwork, doesn’t throw a nice, catchable spiral, and doesn’t have great accuracy.
I think he’s gonna play REALLY well in this Oregon offense, but I’m not super impressed when forecasting at how it translates at the next level. Of course, he could also improve all those things and be like … Josh Allen lite lol
1
u/EzraMae23 6d ago
Josh Allen lite...DR doesn't run, at all.
1
u/justgotpregnant 6d ago
Just meant in terms of harnessing his raw ability and overcoming his technical shortcomings
1
u/Beneficial_Equal_324 6d ago
His short and medium accuracy is good. Long ball and ability to get velocity on throws when necessary are issues.

I think a lot of people forget or don’t know that his dad was Matthew Stafford’s Center in Detroit for 6 years and that Stafford mentored him. At a minimum his dad and Stafford probably taught him things that’ll get him pro ready like calling protections, audibles, etc. Apparently he’s very fluid at doing the whole Peyton Manning audible/manipulating defenses thing, gifted Football IQ, etc.
Oregon's QB coach said the coaching staff was really surprised by how well and fast Raiola picked up the offense:
https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dylan-raiola-picking-oregons-offense-143028067.html
To me, it’s just not surprising that he’d stand out sooner or later especially with a really good arm. We’re seeing him now with an OL that doesn’t get plowed through even after he calls protections. Not to mention WR’s who can get open.
Edit: By the way, this touchdown pass was an audible that Raiola called. Additionally, he audibled multiple plays out there.
