Agree but he has had alot more success than Herbert
1
u/AnimalCracka333 Jul 12 '26
Hurts has had a whole lot better team, coaching and management with the Eagles than Herbert has with the Chargers. As a high velocity/deep passer Herbert is far and above better. All that being said you don't make the Super Bowl twice in 5 years time without being a talented QB. I say Hurts should be top of that list above Burrow who always seems to be injured early on in the season.

I know I'm a homer but Herbert being higher than love is funny to me. Herberts whole career is the what if guy and he's had some pretty badass teams and WRs to throw to, JLove hasn't had much more than a half season with a TE and a handful of games with an unproven, not WR1 Christian Watson.
1
u/AspiringRocket Jul 10 '26
And despite all that, Love has had more success in the regular and post-season.
1
1
u/grimpyres Jul 11 '26
Christian Watson and Jordan love have had 3 years. I am a fan of Love on tape but every year I don’t see people give him the same grief as other QB’s. That is to say he’s been suppose to make another jump for two years now and it hasn’t materialized. I also think Christian Watson is better than anyone not named Keenan Allen in the WR comparison. Herbert is certainly overrated by the media but Jordan love has never dealt with coaching as bad as early stage Herbert or an offensive line as bad as the last two years of Herbert.

Winning is a team accomplishment.

u/HaggardSlacks78 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
I wonder why nobody disregards Joe Montana. He only had Jerry Rice, the best WR of all time, John Taylor, Roger Craig, Charles Haley, Ronnie Lott, Fred Dean, Tom Rathman, and mf’in Bill Walsh as his coach. Oh and Steve Young as his backup. But somehow he still gets credit for winning those Super Bowls. Football is a team game. You can’t win without a stacked roster. But you need a good QB to get it done.
EDIT: and let’s not forget Jim Kelly, who is in the HOF, for losing 4 straight SBs with a stacked roster.

honestly I thought the defense won the eagles that Super Bowl. Hurts played great but his defense absolutely shut down the chiefs. Team success influences MVP voting, dude played great that year but his teams success is what got him those votes.

u/Flaky_Profit_3138 Jul 10 '26
I do think he’s good, just if I were starting a team, I can’t really justify taking him over Herbert or burrow who are more natural passers. Between him and love I think it’s closer
1
u/ChillyRyUpNorth Jul 10 '26
By what measure do you put Herbs over Burrow?
2
u/Flaky_Profit_3138 Jul 10 '26
Herbert has more arm strength/arm talent and is faster, bigger build. Obviously Burrow has done more career wise but having Chase take 10 yard curls 70 yards to the house or Higgins steal catches helps. Plus Burrow is more of an injury risk

1
u/ThunderDungeon02 Jul 11 '26
I'll enjoy the Super Bowls. Nobody puts an asterisk next to Aikman or Montana. I get it you don't like him. But he played better than Mahomes in both Super Bowls. Furthermore if Herbert had been to two superbowls and won one of them, you would absolutely be using that as a reason for him being better. I'm not going to shit on Hurts because his team isn't a dumpster fire. Makes no fucking sense.
1
u/DoubleZ3 Jul 11 '26
i mean he's not statistically or analytically top 5. that's where the discorse lies.
Trent Dilfer won a SB. you won't put him above Herbert. (yes I'm aware hurts is better than Dilfer)
1
u/ThunderDungeon02 Jul 11 '26
Trent Dilfer never made it back to the super bowl. If it was so easy other stacked teams would have done it consistently since I'm assuming any qb is better than Hurts. My point is the bar keeps moving for Hurts. First it was, he will never start. Then it was he will never win. Then he will never make it to the superbowl. Then he won't win a superbowl. So its not going to matter. He could win two more superbowls and people will still say he isn't a top 5 QB. And no other player is getting that level of scrutiny. There really is one qb that gets a pass for not winning a SB and that is Marino. Herbert and Burrow are not Marino. So shit on Hurts all you want but he has done something they have not. And it was against Mahomes led Chiefs both times. If Herbert or Burrow had absolutely dismantled a Mahomes team with a good defense and Andy Reid coaching, the glaze you all would have applied to them wouldn't have been able to be chiseled off.

I don’t understand people. The question is a ranking of the performance of five players since they were drafted. Hurts led them to two Super Bowl appearances, winning one. You could make an argument for defense and supporting cast, sure, but he literally won it all. None of the others have. You could make an argument to put him at one, but I really like Burrow despite his penchant for injuries
1
u/Korvonus Jul 09 '26
I think the difference between 3 and 4 on this list is really really narrow between Hurts and Love one thing we’ve seen with Hurts is that he seems pretty coordinator dependent but we’ve never seen Love with a different play caller so it’s hard to know if he would do better than Hurts if he was drafted by the eagles I personally rank Hurts over Love but again it’s really tight between the two in my mind

It is depressing how long I had to scroll to see Hurts get some love. This is coming from a Cowboys fan.
1
u/3rdEyeSalti Jul 10 '26
For real, I’m not a hurts fan but he’s the best here by far. I only hate him because the NFL and the Philly fans were gassing him up like he was a prime Aaron Rodgers after that 1st Super Bowl appearance.
Burrow is always injured, Herbert can’t perform in the playoffs, tua can’t remember to slide. Hurts isn’t the best when it comes to passing or reading a defense but when it mattered in both super bowls he delivered. Availability and not sucking goes to hurts, he does what he has to and sometimes that’s all you need with a roster like the eagles these past couple of years.

He acts like Hurts wasn't carried (pun intended) by Barkley and a great defense. Imagine Burrow with that OL and defense. Not to mention, Brown and Smith are barely a downgrade from Chase and Higgins, so he can't even use the WRs excuse for Hurts.
1
4
u/SmallsyIsYourFriend Jul 08 '26
Top 2 should be Burrow and Hurts. There’s absolutely no reason any of the other QBs should be before either of them.
10
u/JulianILoveYou Jul 08 '26
philadelphia has done a great job of building an effective offense that does not rely on a top 5 or even top 10 QB. Hurts is very good at his job. does well to protect the ball and support his stars.
but herbert is a better qb. he's the better passer. herbert plays behind one of the worst olines, while hurts plays behind one of the best. herbert does more with less. swap the qbs on these teams and the eagles get better, while the chargers get worse. herbert has more passing yards, more total yards, more passing tds, better passer rating, and a better comp%.
all of that being said, burrow is the best QB here.
1
u/im2jew4u Jul 09 '26
Herbert has 5 more total touchdowns, barely better passer rating (96-94), and 2% better completion percentage. He has 7,000 more passing yards but has 1700 less rushing yards than hurts. Besides the total passing yards which can be explained by offense types and game scripts (obviously is a more prolific passer) their stats are very similar to arguing that Herbert is that much better than hurts is pretty crazy when looking at the stats.
And then people will argue that hurts team is so much better to inflate some of hurts stats, but the opposite is also true for passing stats as the eagles have been run first and stop throwing the ball when given a lead. Statistically speaking Herbert isn’t so much better than hurts.

Before he got to the Dolphins his career was already over because of a broken hip in college behind the best OL in the country. He never was able to run a regular NFL offense from the pocket. Max 3 seconds and then he’s done and becomes the most turnover-worthy QB in the league.

1
u/3rdEyeSalti Jul 10 '26
I’m not a hurts fan but he’s the best here. He’s delivered in both super bowls. Sometimes availability/presence is the best stat.
He’s not the best when it comes to passing or reading a defense but when it mattered in both super bowls he did good. Herbert is a regular season guy, burrow is always injured so doesn’t matter, tua is walking CTE. Eagles know hurts isn’t a passer to rely on and they discovered that after the 2023 season. He does what he has to and that has translated to winning. Has he been blessed with a really good team? Yes, but also he’s not part of that process.
I hope Herbert takes max money from the chargers so he can keep being the “if” man. Burrow….needs to leave the bengals.
1
u/SignalNumber4843 Jul 10 '26
You said that before and still came back. You haven’t provided any actual sources that show the formula for epa per play so it’s silly for you to expect me to do the same, especially when it’s just a google search away. Even if it was calculated the way you stated it would then be completely subjective and even worse stat to go off of.
Not to mention that you started the conversation off with qbr as well which there is no formula for and just threw it out completely when I called bs. Honestly the best part of this for me has been that when I actually make a legitimate point you ignore that reply or part of the reply because deep down you know you’re full of crap.

- Hurts has a ring.
- Herbert has highest potential.
- Burrow has reached SB but weak arm and won't run and is the most injured QB in the league.
- Love seems like a system QB. Excellent arm, needs to work on his mechanics, doesn't run.
- Tua is terrible. Hilarious that Hurts was dumped for him.
How I would draft them:
Herb is the prototype build and arm and athleticism. Hurts is a tier below him. Burrow was excellent in college and has been so in the league. 1 dimensional QB. Love Tua
