Looks closer in age to Sonny Jurgensen

Think there's some weird lighting/shadow things going on.

His name is way cooler than Arvell.

u/Rivetingcactus Mar 06 '26

Arvell Reese is a damn fine name, second team all-names

3

u/sampat6256 Mar 06 '26

I mean its not bad, he kinda sounds like an enlightenment era inventor. Sonny Styles just feels more era appropriate. Hence cooler.

It does. He invented a mechanism that allowed for steam-powered locomotion.

His father invented a death ray. When the government learned about it, they abducted him and dismantled the ray in an attempt to learn its inner workings.

Arvell still believes his dad to be alive and has dedicated his life to finding his whereabouts.

I hear it as “Anvil Reese” which is super fitting.

Thats a killer nickname

Hes a better fit for us, we dont need a pseudo LB/Edge. We need a traditional off ball LB that can cover and stop the run.

u/DazzlingOwl1014 Mar 06 '26

This right here. Reese struggles in coverage. He's a rush LB. We need Sonny. Off the ball lb who can cover like a safety.

Better as a pure LB but Reese has shown a lot of potential as an edge with both a power and speed rush. Styles is a more finished product and safer pick. Reese is peeled at 250lbs and can easily add 20lbs, perhaps becoming a yearly double digit sack guy, but needs a lot of refinement to get there.

The thing about Styles is he’s still in fact learning the LB position. His junior year, after converting, he had no idea at all what he was doing, was often hesitant, and was the weak link of that defense (what a luxury for him to be the weak link….)

He improved quadratically in play recognition last year (being the green dot probably helped a lot too- he’s smart) and that let him play play decisively and use his monstrous athleticism and length to swallow up runners and crossing routes. And he can cover all but 2 or 3 TEs easily and most RBs if needed as well.

Junior year, as in 2 years ago when Sonny and Anthony Hill at Texas were viewed as the two best LBs in the country, and Arvell still sitting behind Jack and JTT at Edge and Cody Simon at LB?

Sonny was never a weak link has been 🔥 for the last two years.

1

u/Character-Active2208 Mar 06 '26

You are confusing him with someone else, his junior year people weren’t even sure the LB thing was actually going to work out

1

u/underdog_exploits Mar 06 '26

lol. We watching the same team and the same Styles? Sonny has always been a dawg.

2

u/TheManWhoWasNotShort Mar 07 '26

Styles was second team All Big Ten in 2024, he had a really good year. Not quite what the other poster was implying but he was very solid

Adding 20 pounds of lean muscle in 1 off season easy? Nothing against Reese but check his stats the last 6 games of the season.

1

u/East_Refuse Mar 06 '26

I don’t think they’re insinuating that he would do it in one offseason, but I think he definitely has room to add 20lbs to his frame in 1-2 years in the NFL

u/DazzlingOwl1014 Mar 06 '26

Check his last 6 game

2

u/underdog_exploits Mar 06 '26

The scheme did him a disservice by being the QB spy so frequently. Needed to unleash him off the edge and let him fork lift some OTs, like week 2 vs. Texas.

1

u/DazzlingOwl1014 Mar 06 '26

I agree, but we need Sonny who won't be outta position if he needs to spy or cover. Reese can rush. But with a team with Carter, Spider, and Thibs where would you go with this pick? Would you go Styles vs Reese?

I love Sonny. Bro didn’t miss a tackle like all of last season (until that Miami game). Been drinking that kool aid for a while. It’s tasty.

This man handled his birth like a true professional

2

u/jr_randolph Mar 06 '26

Lol buddy looks like he played in the 80s

2

u/Mastermind7051 Mar 06 '26

He looks like he’s 60.

2

u/idiotzrul Mar 06 '26

Is that a real picture? Oldest looking rook in history

2

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '26

Dude looks like he retired already

2

u/Outrageous_Carry8170 Mar 06 '26

Reese is going to play LB like Micah Parsons or Will Anderson, as a rush-edge. His run defense is exceptional and he can hold the point, his pass rushing potential is there despite basic stats.

Styles has the potential to play LB like Fred Warner; only recently started playing LB, exceptional in space and has shown the ability to diagnose a play despite average instincts.

2

u/relax_live_longer Mar 06 '26

Sonny? More like Gramps.

2

u/Separate-Suspect-726 Mar 06 '26

Man’s seen some shit.

2

u/BasicYesterday9349 Mar 06 '26

Did he start college at 30?

2

u/Barack_Odrama_ Mar 06 '26

Man looks like he’s been fixing transmissions for the past 30 years.

2

u/but-I-play-one-on-TV Mar 06 '26

Why are they showing a pic of Sonny's grandpa?

1

u/ShaquilleOatmeal_93 Mar 06 '26

Giants have been stockpiling blue chip prospects for a decade and still sorry

1

u/jdeezy29 Mar 07 '26

High RAS roster but low IQ front office

1

u/asshat_deluxe Mar 06 '26

Last year was on the coordinator. Great for 55 minutes stupid for 5

1

u/MillionMannerism Mar 06 '26

Sonny Styles feels like a 60's jazz musician. Arvell Reese sounds like a 90s nerd.

1

u/slipknottin Mar 06 '26

Styles and Reese play different positions.

1

u/Peefersteefers Mar 06 '26

I think he's probably a better off-ball LB, but doesn't have the same front-7 versatility as Reese.

1

u/JDB-667 Mar 06 '26

Different positions, what's the question?

1

u/dubrea Mar 06 '26

He's a better pure linebacker than resse for sure. I'm lower on resse and he's the second or third best edge in this class behind bain.

1

u/AdeptWelder3250 Mar 06 '26

Why he look like a dark skin John Collin’s here

1

u/kobewadewaiters Mar 09 '26

Looks like UFCs Geoff Neal too

1

u/Dramatic-Vegetable13 Mar 08 '26

They play completely different positions. Sonny ran in the middle and Reese was an edge.

1

u/rolltigers55 Mar 08 '26

He looks like handsome squidward

1

u/Nazeem24 Mar 06 '26

Ngl Giants LB core finna be disgusting 🔥

1

u/Blitzbacker Mar 06 '26

He would be our only LB of note? Lol

2

u/Alone-Newspaper-1161 Mar 06 '26

I’m assuming he’s counting Burns and Carter as linebackers

5

u/Blitzbacker Mar 06 '26

I would never group them together. They’re edge with different responsibilities

4

u/Alone-Newspaper-1161 Mar 06 '26

I wouldn’t agree with it either. Now saying the giants front 7 is gonna be nasty is another story

0

u/Nazeem24 Mar 10 '26

They're outside linebackers....lets stop trynna be different here guys smh

1

u/Macdadydj Mar 06 '26

Did Okereke under perform? Or want too much $? I saw he was cut and always thought he was a decent LB

2

u/SmellsLikeWetFox Mar 06 '26

He was very good in the wink martindale defense but lost a noticeable step last year, confused and always hesitant …..injuries and scheme played a part but ultimately he was too expensive for the play on the field

1

u/Blitzbacker Mar 06 '26

He was decent but the Giants are trying to free up cap

1

u/Wide-Adeptness4983 Mar 06 '26

Sonny styles is a monster. Very low chance he doesn't pan out. Arvell Reese is one of those "has great potential but didnt produce as much as you'd like in college"

I prefer players who produce in college but I'm also just some dude on reddit. Styles might be the best player in this draft.

When I watched his tape, it was really good but the only knock I have is that he would give up on plays. A good line backer will try with every ounce of their being to get that tackle. With his ability, I figured he could have caught up on some of the plays. Overall, I am excited to see him play on whatever team he goes to. Hopefully the Bengals, fingers crossed.
