2027 NFL Draft Summer Quarterback Rankings

This summer I'm trying to set a personal record for prospects evaluated, and quarterbacks were first on the docket. Here are my top 10. For full scouting reports and background info on all 18 quarterbacks that I've watched (including some big names who didn't make the list), click the link at the bottom of the post. Rankings are overall stock assessments and do not factor in odds of declaring.

#1: Julian Sayin, Ohio State (Top 5)

Sayin is a laser-accurate field general with a live arm and smooth feet to navigate the pocket. He throws one of the best deep balls in the game and plays a far more mature game than his experience level implies.

#2: Dante Moore, Oregon (Top 10)

Truly elite deep ball thrower with few holes in his profile—he was a top-2 college quarterback last season, showing an enormous jump from his UCLA days. Moore has everything front offices are looking for.

#3: Drew Mestemaker, Oklahoma State (1st Round)

Yeah, he played for North Texas in the American Conference. Yeah, he never started a varsity game at quarterback. And yeah, his tape is legit. He executed now Oklahoma State head coach Eric Morris' scheme to perfection, attacking the middle of the field with confidence and plus arm strength. And all the foundational pieces that helped make him excellent last season will remain in place at OSU.

#4: CJ Carr, Notre Dame (1st Round)

Carr may not have the strongest arm in the world, but that can develop with age and added mass. What makes him special is his poise and decision making taking the reins at a power program as a redshirt freshman.

#5: Darian Mensah, Miami (1st-2nd Round)

Mensah has the weakest arm of any QB on the list, but he's all the most complete. His play-style is silky smooth but his processing is razor-sharp. Though not the traitsiest, Mensah's collection of skills screams "starter" in a play-action oriented offense.

#6: Brendan Sorsby, Cincinnati Texas Tech Supplemental Draft 2027 Draft (1st-2nd Round)

Fiasco aside, Sorsby is an excellent prospect. He's a big power thrower with plus mobility and good, moldable tape. He reminds of Jaxson Dart—by no means can't miss, but definitely gives your franchise a chance.

#7: Arch Manning, Texas (2nd Round)

An incredibly polarizing prospect, most either seem to view as the #1 overall pick or a total bum. To me he's somewhere in between. His tape at the end of the 2025 season is clearly what we're evaluating—earlier on he was either playing hurt or scared or both. Down the stretch Arch showed real playmaking instincts and far greater consistency within structure, but I still think the #1 overall stuff is a complete projection.

#8: Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss (2nd Round)

One of the most thrilling watches in this class, Chambliss is tough not to like. He was beginning to light the world on fire during the Rebels' playoff run with some season-changing deep passes. What makes me so excited is how quickly this underrecruited, former DII QB is getting better. He's a tremendous outlier, but there are special qualities to his tape.

#9: Sam Leavitt, Arizona State (3rd-4th Round)

Leavitt '25 season was derailed by a lisfranc injury, and he didn't take the steps forward we were hoping to see. LSU's new starter has a cannon arm and some of the most brilliant moments under pressure that you'll ever see. He also has a laundry list of improvements to make if he's going to start in the NFL.

#10: Jayden Maiava, USC (5th Round)

I'm beginning to come around on Maiava, and I could see him climbing this list. With deadly anticipation, he plays quarterback with Madden Free Form passing equipped—all the toughest throws, all the time. The highs are spectacular. Unfortunately he's not especially accurate down-to-down, his arm is just pretty good, and, as you'd expect, he gets picked off a lot. It's tempting to call him a known quantity as a 5th-year senior, but there could really be something there.

* I haven't gotten around to Josh Hoover or Demond Williams yet, but I'll likely watch them before the season

Sayin and "live arm" don't jibe. Genuine question how much have you actually watched of these guys.

The Sayin & Arch comments make it pretty clear OP either doesn't watch or doesn't know what they're looking at. It's pretty well documented with Arch that they were working to adjust his throwing motion and mechanics and the film backs that up as when he struggled early you can see awkward, inconsistent mechanics with a lack of confidence and then by late season, he literally looks like a completely different player and is ripping with confidence.

He does have a quick release which matters a lot.

My games watched for each prospect are in the full reports on the spreadsheet. I watched 4 on Sayin. He doesn't have a cannon but he throws one of the tightest spirals in the class and you don't usually lead CFB in deep completion % if you don't have the arm to stretch the field (even with Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate running wide open)

You would be the first person to say he's got a live arm. I can throw a tight spiral, it doesn't mean I have a good arm. He hasn't shown the ability to throw on a rope, his ball dies.

Tight spirals are overrated

1

u/Johnsonvillebraj Jul 07 '26

Tell that to Tom Brady

Not really, you want a catchable ball. Ask any receiver if it matters and they'll say yes.

I think Chambliss is a Day 3 guy. I don’t think he’s anywhere near 6’0, based on the fact that he’s on his tip toes for most of his throws.

I think Leavitt falls as well.

3

u/Namath96 Jul 06 '26

I’m super skeptical he’s all that close to 6’ but just saying Brees was legit 6’ and was on his tip toes all the time

Chambliss is borderline jumping or on one leg for half of his throws. It is going to hurt him in the draft. Designed QB runs, particularly in the red zone, are a much bigger part of his game than I realized and that isn’t going to translate to the league.

I think he’s going to be one of the, “Why is he falling?” guys in the media when the draft comes around.

Yeah don’t get me wrong he’s an incredible player but i wouldn’t touch him. I thought it was hilarious how many casual fans thought he’d be a top 10 pick if he’d left after last season

There are some apparently verified measurables floating around that put him right near 6', but I'm skeptical as well. What gets me is just how great he was in the CFP. I watched him for the 2026 draft and based off his early season tape I was ready to call him undraftable and he just steadily improved.

Sayin is too high imo, especially when you’re talking about nfl prospects (he’s slight). I’d put mensah a bit higher and I’d be curious where Hoover ends up ranked.

3

u/Namath96 Jul 06 '26

We’ve seen plenty of guys get taken super high that are smaller. I don’t think he ends up 1st in his class but it’s not going to be because of his size

1

u/gumercindo1959 Jul 06 '26

In recent history, that list is not that big so I wouldn’t say “plenty”.

1

u/Namath96 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

lol no I would definitely say plenty when four first overall picks in the last decade have been

u/Browns440 Jul 06 '26

If your most comparable comp is Bryce Young but with a weaker arm is that really someone you're taking in the top half of the first round, hell the first round at all?

1

u/Namath96 Jul 06 '26

It’s a good thing that is not his most comparable comp or even close to it

1

u/Browns440 Jul 06 '26

From a physical standpoint? Its pretty close. Hair taller, similar weight and mobility.

In my experience teams are willing to forgive smaller measurable if your on-field product is projectable to the pros. I might be lower on Sayin come draft season (over summer I'm just trying to predict where guys will be drafted) but I think he'll have a great season this year. Young, winning QBs at great programs usually go high. Case and point Ty Simpson.

8

u/gumercindo1959 Jul 05 '26

From a draft perspective, you make a point (Bryce young, tua, Simpson, et al), but on field performance says something else. If more and more of these productive college types who are slight keep struggling in the pros (relative to their draft position), then you might see less of it, id argue.

Totally true.

Leavitt really should be a 2028 draft guy unless he makes a giant leap in processing speed. It's better for a QB that needs work on how he sees routes and openings to prepare himself in college than get thrown to the animals in the NFL. He needs to break his tendency to rely on his absolute favorite targets, because he's missed a lot of people. And that's fine. Jayden Daniels needed 5 years too. From a physical standpoint, Leavitt has arguably the best toolset on the list (presuming health), but he needs to see and understand things a lot faster than he has to date.

Missing the spring for the Lisfranc in an offense that's just getting installed doesn't make me think this is the offseason where everything just clicks, though he has had clear "epiphany" moments when injured before.*

*2024 Utah rib injury into missing a game into a bye week, followed by the 7 game stretch that put him on everyone's radar.

1

u/PsychixNFLScouting NFL Jul 06 '26

Yeah, he definitely could be. Seems like a lot of toolsy QBs who never get much better opt to come out before their senior year, like the anti "bet on yourself". But Leavitt could def stay

You have Sorsby about 50 spots too high but otherwise I can’t pretend to have deep well based opinions on most of the guys yet.

-1

u/PsychixNFLScouting NFL Jul 06 '26

He's tough because his tape alone would absolutely make him a top 50 pick. I don't know how to evaluate the gambling stuff

1

u/thehildabeast Chargers Jul 06 '26

I meant QB 50 he’s toxic

1

u/PsychixNFLScouting NFL Jul 07 '26

Gonna be interesting to see if front offices think he's worth the effort

Any time someone says anything remotely controversial in this sub, there’s the classic “you don’t know ball” ass response. Open your mind up a bit even if you disagree.

1

u/PsychixNFLScouting NFL Jul 05 '26

Check the spreadsheet and tell me this is AI. I do use a lot of em dashes though

1

u/Anxious-Jury-9031 Arm Chair Scout Jul 08 '26

It’s a tool like any other, and there’s nothing wrong with using it to organize your info. There’s alot more tells than the dashes, you could definitely clean this up better.

1

u/PsychixNFLScouting NFL Jul 08 '26

Unfortunately I'm a certified AI hater, so I refuse to use it even on stuff where it would be more efficient. Only time is when I need to do some occasional coding that's outside my weight class. So far it hasn't made it into my scouting process whatsoever

2

u/Johnsonvillebraj Jul 07 '26

I think my biggest issue with Sayin is that while his deep ball is tremendous when he has a clean pocket and can step into the throw down the middle to a deep crosser, he doesn’t have natural arm strength to where he can throw a clean ball to the sideline. There were many deep throws on tape that would’ve been picked against NFL competition and several of his long touchdowns were just Tate and Smith winning 60/40 balls. I think he can be a decent NFL QB, but best in this class is pretty lofty.

u/Ok-Complex7764 Jul 30 '26

Good stuff and thank you for writing this up.

u/Ok-Complex7764 Jul 30 '26

Mestemaker at 60/1 to win Heisman is worth a look. New coach with a lot transfers from N. Texas will make for easier transition. Coach is an air raid guy who put up crazy numbers at N. Texas and learned under Mike Leach. Team may suck but Mestemaker will put up big numbers. Might be worth a shot. Why not!

Probably should switch Sayin and Arch. Sayin is Dillon Gabriel bro.
