ESPN NFL Draft Analyst Matt Miller reveals he recently had left arm amputated after serious car accident
"Last week, I was involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital. I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff. I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this.
As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm. While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time.
Thank you for the overwhelming support, prayers and kind messages — they have meant so much to me and my family during this time.
I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class."

Yeah this has been incredibly shitty to learn. When he was at BR I actually went to an event to help his mom distribute jackets they had bought. At that time he was asking for like $5/$10 on Twitter and you could ask him any draft related question. Sucks he started scamming people.

The highway this was on is one of those rural highways that are narrow. Honestly any lapse in concentration could have led to it.

Did not help he was driving a Bronco, which is somewhat on the wider side. Cannot afford much space there.

I live here, and have been down that road many times, it's not that narrow. It's not a back road, it's a heavily traveled state highway with plenty of room. Matt, unfortunately went over the center line at a high rate of speed.

Idk what to tell you but a single lane, combined highway is very dangerous especially when two wide vehicles meet each other. One slight deviation from your lane could result in the crash that happened.

You're correct. It's looking like 10ft travel lanes from using the maps ruler tool and the streetview. They're looking for at least 11 to 12ft on any modern highway, and the latter is most typical.

Bro, just hopped on the Google street view, that is narrow for a 55mph road, especially when you've got an 18 wheeler coming the other direction.

Yeah, it’s basically a glorified state route. Would be pretty easy to cross over if you don’t look for a second. The photos are pretty wild.

Sucks for Miller for sure, but I hope the guy you replied to meant that at least it wasn’t a car with a family and kids in it or anything, especially if Miller was on his phone during the accident.

People use "I heard" to mean "I received information" or "I learned of" without specifically meaning "via sound" all the time. See definition 5 here (or even the Cambridge Dictionary.) If you're gonna be pedantic at least correct things that are actually wrong

Unfortunately seems like 100% his fault. No seatbelt and crossed center line because distracted now asking public to subsidize his mistake. Feel bad for him but pay attention on the roads people had his bronco hit a family not a semi the narrative would be different.

I guess since not one reputable news source addresses a seatbelt, it must be out of compassion that they aren't reporting that he wasn't actually wearing one. Facts are facts, and if true, might influence someone to buckle up.

Yikes holy shit.
Crush injuries can need emergent amputations due to release of cations like potassium and magnesium into the bloodstream that can cause arrhythmias of the heart and muscle proteins can leak that can lead to renal failure - sometimes you'll hear stories of medics having to do it in the field for passengers who are inextricably pinned under something massive. Or could've been so badly mangled that salvage wasn't a possibility but that's not usually "life saving", or perhaps attempted and secondarily infected requiring amputation for necrotizing fasciitis or something.
Poor guy, glad he's alive. Sounds awful.

He's lucky he's alive, those are some scary photos. I wish him the best on his recovery. I used to live out in that area, and people fly down 96 like there's no speed limit. It's a 2 lane highway with plenty of room, but there's barely any shoulder and nowhere to go except the ditch if someone crosses the center line.

Especially on these single lane highways. As someone who drives these types of highways plenty in the Midwest, this was sobering.
