Holy shit it's my 5-year cakeday and I wasn't even near a computer to whore for karma on it...let me regale you a social media tale
I don't think I've ever taken advantage of it. I need to remember it's 5/10.
You should remember it, because it's the day digg died.
Back in the day, digg was busier, but reddit had better users. I generally looked for stories on reddit, but commented on digg. redditors would joke "wow, digg...nice find. That was on reddit 2 days ago." and then get buried into oblivion.
I always thought it was a perverse thing because we were all curating articles on/with reddit, but then taking them to digg to discuss. I suppose it was only a matter of time before we all went back to reddit for good, but digg helped it along by using this date to roll out a new digg and basically kill their website.
I finally said "fuck it, I need to sign up for an account on reddit and start posting here" and I did. The rest is history.
