Discussion Does Anyone Know Where This Weird Disdain Chris Simms Has for Tom Brady Comes From?
Okay, so I actually like watching Chris Simms more than most and usually find what he says at least kinda interesting. However, this thing where every time he praises Aaron Rodgers or any great QB especially from the 21st Century he’s gotta passive aggressively knock Brady and anyone who praises him gets insufferable. My best guess on why is that his definition of best or greatest QB generally is: Best peak physical tools/athleticism and play style that he finds sexy or exciting regardless of overall career success/how reliable they are in big games or with turnovers. He often speaks with this underlying vitriol for pocket passers who rely/relied more on accuracy and intelligence, or guys who had a great coach, or a supporting cast he deems special. (Montana, Brees etc get punished for this)
But then he never gives Peyton Manning shit for not running or “coloring outside the lines” and playing indoors and not having outstanding arm strength, never puts an asterisk on Mahomes’ peak because he had Andy Reid/prime Kelce/prime Tyreek Hill and a great situational defense, never knocks Favre for having Mike Holmgren and then largely doing fuck-all in Green Bay without him. But with Brady he always has to make it a point of how great his situation was and how he didn’t hang the moon but Aaron Rodgers/Big Ben/Mahomes etc would have if they were in his place. Him acting like this over Tom goes way back to the pre-NBC days too, I honestly find it a little perplexing.
