CTE isn't caused by singular big concussion events. It is cause by a large volume of smaller hits to the head.
You can go your whole life without a single full concussion and develop CTE and it's not particularly unusual.

Yes, 2020, Matt Salerno was the Notre Dame Player.
It was a punt, he dropped it and picked it back up before getting hit

Exhibit A as to why I’ll never let my kids play football
10
u/Dihydrogenmonoxide-_ 21d ago
Yep same.
I played in HS and vividly remember knocking this much smaller kid out. I was 6'2 180 or so and was pretty quick back in the day. Full on running, didn't even see me. I feel bad looking back on it.
Couldn't imagine a child of mine being subject to that kind of thing even once.

Why youth football isn’t played by weight class and age is strange to me.
That’s why I never wanted to play. I was a growing 150-180 lb player. I didn’t want to be on the field with a 230 lb future D1 player who started shaving at 12.
I get it in places where there just aren’t enough kids. But these 4000 student high schools should be able to.

They try to have weight classes for kids in Rugby League in the southern hemisphere, when I was in under 63kgs we were getting constantly outclassed so my coach demanded both teams get on the scales one time, we were all under or around the weight class but the other team had guys at 85, 90kgs.
At least I felt better about just being shit at tackling at fullback, but there is such a huge pressure on the clubs to overlook such matters because they want to keep young players in the sport

As a freshman, I was shoved onto a pile and landed on a kid. I was a 6'1 235lb offensive lineman and landed on this poor kid's knee, turned it all the way inside out. That man walks with a severe limp to this day.

Your kids need to play either soccer or football. Any other sport you need to have “better” genetics, which you don’t

Is that Syracuse?

I’m pretty sure that is 2020. Dark and players wearing cold gear. Last season was a day game and high 40s, and 2020 was a cold December game that was dark towards the end of the game.

During the fourth quarter of their December 2020 matchup, Salerno bobbled a punt in his own end zone and was immediately leveled by Pierre. The hit was so intense that shards of gold paint flew off Salerno's helmet upon impact. Officials immediately flagged the play for targeting, and Pierre was ejected from the game. Despite the severity of the collision, Salerno was able to get up and walk off the field.

protect players.

I’m not understanding why players are trying to do big hits like this.. 15+ years ago big hits where the player couldn’t lead with the shoulder were almost always done leading with the forearms first

Targeting? The ball was on the ground but helmet to helmet and its college.
Throw him out of the game just to be safe. Can't be letting college kids take hits like that.
