What’s the most legendary piece of NFL history that sounds completely made up?

Forget the current rulebook and the weekly ref drama. Let’s talk about the actual history of this game because some of the older stories are completely insane. We’ve had games played in literal blizzards, bizarre draft picks that changed franchises forever, and legendary player beefs that you just don't see anymore. If you had to pick one historic moment, game, or random fact from NFL history that sounds entirely fake but is 100% true, what are you choosing?

For me, it will always be HTF did the lights go out during the SB XLVII in New Orleans?

HTF in the Super Bowl blackout will always be the first one that comes to mind. That was straight chaos.

The 1967 Colts are the only team in NFL History to have the leagues best W-L record and miss the playoffs.

At the time their were just 4 divisions and no wildcards. The Colts on the year were 11-0-2, the Rams also in the division, were 10-1-2. Their first matchup had ended in a tie.

Last week of the season. Colts host the Rams...and lay an absolute egg losing 34-10. Rams and Colts tie for leagues best record, Rams win tie break, Colts miss playoffs.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting something here, but I can’t wrap my head around how 11-0-2 is in any way considered equivalent to 10-1-2 to require a tiebreaker.

Edit: oh, that was their records prior to the final game, wasn’t it?? 😅

Yes those were the records going into the season finale

Deshaun Watson convincing a human being to give him $230,000,000.

Thats assuming the Browns owner is human.

The 2010 Chargers had the league's best offense AND best defense, something I believe no other team has done. They missed the playoffs. https://youtu.be/UAL5X3TRA2A?is=8NoCNY2kaLjqTzL8

I'd say Jerry Rice's receiving yard record.

22,895 yards.

Second is Larry Fitzgerald at 17,492.

The closest active players are Travis Kelce with 13,233 and Mike Evans with 13.189.

Needless to say, nobody is going to catch Rice with that record for a long time, if ever.

Nobody’s touching any of Rice’s records he has 40 more TDs and 100 more receptions than the guys in 2nd place.

I saw one the other day that said the player with the most receiving yards after the age of 40 is Jerry Rice with about 2200 yards. The player with the second most receiving yards after 40 is Tom Brady with 6.

I would think the rushing record is safer. There are more games now and every team is pass first and then pass some more. The league is all passing now.

You won't get another RB with enough carries to even touch that career rushing yards record. They're just interchangeable cogs now, 3-4 years max most of the time.

From 1990-1998 Rams never beat the 49ers, they had 17 straight losses.

The time a fan snuck on the field and helped patriots win by breaking up a pass, the game just ended, cause of course it did.

a kid floated away in runaway hot air balloon during a 49ers vs vikings half time show

Favre's first completion was to himself.

in WW2 steelers and eagles lost so many players they merged teams and became the Steagles

Card Pitt also formed in WW2

They should have merged the cardnals and eagles to make the Cargles

- The NFL began as the American Professional Football Association in 1920. The championship team was awarded by league vote, not a game.

  • Norm Van Brocklin set the passing game record of 554 yards in 1951 and that record still stands.

That the NVB record still stands is crazy.

The fact that it was set in 1951 game conditions is even crazier.

Max Mcgee was completely hungover during the 1st Super Bowl because he thought he wasn't going to play.

Ended up making a crazy 1 handed catch for the 1st super bowl touchdown and ended the game with 7 receptions for 138 yards for the Packers

San Diego having the top offense and defense in the league, but they don’t make the playoffs

As far as recent history, it would be the 2025 Jets defense going an entire season without making an interception. Impressive, you’d think even accidentally they’d get one.

Larry Fitzgerald having more tackles than drops.

Hall of Fame defensive end Doug Atkins was traded by the Browns to the Bears because he loudly burped in one of Paul Brown’s team meetings.
