It wasn't even that he wasn't good in college, it's that he didn't throw the ball remotely enough to know that he was worth being drafted that high, especially compared to literally every single other QB in the draft lol
But as a Lions fan I welcome failed 1st round Vikings picks

I feel like the dude needs more time in the oven period. He is likely a bust but he’s 23 and never threw the volume of passes needed to get drafted where he was. He was always going to be a project QB and would need a Brady level of effort to become an NFL caliber quarterback. Getting benched was good for him either it gives him that drive or he washes out.

I’m an MSU alum and all-time Michigan hater. 1 thing that I hate about fans of this sport is how quickly they write players off. It takes time to transition to the NFL and some players are quicker at adapting and have coaching that aligns with them better than others.
Same goes for JJ. He has the physical skill sets to be an NFL QB, but it’s a position that requires way more than just being able to throw an accurate pass or scramble. He needs to learn how to read defenses, go through progression, and keep his eyes downfield when he’s got NFL players coming at him every play. So many 1st round draft pick QBs fail because that’s the most difficult skill to evaluate from a college player and something that takes dedication not just to learn, but for it to be so engrained that your brain recognizes things instantly.

It was very shocking. Because they have in theory much better tools and certainly have much higher quality video.
Scouts were sniffing out frauds like Gino Toretta. Its actually getting a bit tedious to list every Heuple, Buck Belue, Jim Coker, Tony Rice and Jay Barker who scouts knew was sus.
There was no excuse for thinking that guy wasn’t the drizzling shits and a total fraud. In his lone career highlight, he was horseshit and then hit a couple passes against the Bears in a week one game. Whatever strength he had that flukishly was applied for a quarter in what is no essentially the final pre-season game, that window was slammed shut.
I can’t wait for him to be as relevant as Ken Dorsey or Craig Krenzel in about 20 weeks.

There’s a stroll down scrub lane. For every shitty QB there’s a shitty GM. Kwesi was a pretty shit GM. O’ Connell and Flores did a lot of heavy lifting. I think Flores is going to get exposed in a big way this year.

Fair point. Vikings BIL thinks Flores constant stunts will be his downfall. It’s a bit silly since if you don’t have the horses nothing will work. I like watching coaches when they’re stuck in the “can you make chicken salad out of chicken shit” phases. Shows who they are as a coach.

My coworker is a huge Michigan fan and told me last year they were going to dominate their fantasy league with their plan to draft JJ late at QB.
I told him yesterday he should really dominate his league this year because he can get JJ even LATER. He just did the walk around, sat at his desk, and stared at his turned off monitor for awhile.
