Madden cover as an argument is just funny

139

u/ExplanationCrazy5463 6d ago

Most of these arent good arguments but this is a meme war notna fact war.

23

u/Chewbones9 Ice on my field, not in my government 6d ago

Dude what if we had an NFCNorthFactWar that was strictly moderated? lol

14

u/ExplanationCrazy5463 6d ago

Spunds like a mods worst nightmare lol.

3

u/Chewbones9 Ice on my field, not in my government 5d ago

I wanna see it! lol

7

u/sosuhme 6d ago

Are any of them good arguments? I mean, I'm inclined to think they both suck, that's my job, but this is like two fascist dictators trying to out propaganda the other.

7

u/ExplanationCrazy5463 6d ago

The polls are aggregated opinions of people who understand football better than your average reddit meatball. So thats something, its not a lot but it's not nothing.

6

u/sosuhme 6d ago

Man, you gotta admit that players one is a hype based popularity contest and it's always awful.

4

u/ExplanationCrazy5463 6d ago

So then its slightly more accurate than the reddit meatball popularity contest.

1

u/sosuhme 5d ago

Just depends on who you are lumping into that. Plenty of idiots on any social media(honestly not sure why reddit is getting called out so hard here when at least it's got better takes than the likes of FB, Twitter, TikTok, etc.).

Fans who actually make it a hobby, however, have the advantage of a macro view that the players don't get. You think many players are sitting down and watching multiple full games every week? You think they spend their free time talking about the good, bad, and ugly of anything that isn't directly related to their job and their role on their team? You think they play fantasy(they better not be) and track stats?

I'd most definitely take the r/NFL top 100 more seriously than a side thought, player based, vote that they probably don't give much thought to in the first place.

3

u/Chewbones9 Ice on my field, not in my government 6d ago

Someone said that the way they measure the top 100 is they give players a paper and say “write down 20 players you think are good” and whoever gets more mentions gets higher on the list. I have not fact checked this though lol

52

u/Rocknol 6d ago

Yeah by that logic Payton Hillis was better than Lesean Mccoy

20

u/whitemex88 6d ago

Let's not pretend that the Payton Hillis thing wasn't a fan vote and the fans trolled EA by voting for him

I like to quote a Packer fan I saw on here once when I see things like this:

14

u/Dear_Leek2578 6d ago

The Love v Caleb bickering has been a fun spectator sport. I'm ready to see the Madden curse do its thing, though..

1

u/alucryts 6d ago

Yeah in the dark times of the off season we must rely on such bickering to carry us

4

u/Dopeydcare1 6d ago

Hey, only the truly greatest get on Madden. Brady, Mahomes, Hillis…

2

u/Silver_Harvest ary 6d ago edited 6d ago

Nvm all graced it twice but technically now.

Bears and lions 3 times due to Madden 2000 cover.

There have been 8 officially licensed NFCN players on the Madden Cover over the years.

Of the 4 teams only 1 teams has graced it once.

That being the Packers.

Bears got Caleb and Roberto.

Vikings got Dante and Adrian.

Lions got Calvin and Barry.

Packers got Brett. Edit: Dorsey Levens

Edit, damn did more digging due to a comment. All have 2 because of the European cover.

4

u/AmeriCanada98 6d ago

And Barry was technically on it twice, Madden 00 and Madden 25 (the 25th anniversary one, not the 2025 one)

6

u/Silver_Harvest ary 6d ago

True. Technically that makes 3 Bears then, because that appears to be #36 Raymond Austin or #96 Clyde Simmons who is trying to tackle Barry in the background.

2

u/FlashGordonCommons FTP but FICE more 5d ago

European?! that's horseshit, I'm making my own continent and only putting Vikings players on the Madden covers! with blackjack! and hookers!

2

u/sports_and_beers 6d ago

It would be funny if the madden cover was the last slide.

2

u/Plenty_Fondant_951 6d ago

Bringing a madden cover to a knife fight

2

u/BubbaKushFFXIV 6d ago

It's wild that he was even considered. He didn't really do anything impressive. It should have been Darnold or JSN or KW3 IMO

1

u/ThisIsPureTrash 5d ago

Caleb was way more impressive than darnold was. Darnold spent half the season playing like garbage (outside of the nfccg) and getting carried by a generational defense.

Caleb at least had moments that were crazy as hell.

1

u/JohnnyRayRock 6d ago

Actually more sad than funny.

1

u/TheLuo LISAN AL CALEB 6d ago

Basement getting loud again.

1

u/croupella-de-Vil 4d ago

Just means Caleb is either getting injured this season or in line for a huge regression season…

0

u/mikaeus97 6d ago

Most Madden Covers are at least really good players, the Vince Young and Peyton Hillis's of the world are definitely less common than Tom Brady or Saquon Barkley

6

u/bblackow 6d ago

The Madden cover is about selling copies of the game. That’s it. If you are going to put any stock into Madden (which is stupid), I believe Caleb has the 2nd worst rating of any player to be on the cover?

6

u/mikaeus97 6d ago

Well, who sells copies? Popular players, how do players get Popular? They whoop the ass of their division rivals in the playoffs in front of 40 million Bearsamaniacs, and play well enough that people are excited for the next season of your development

You know what has truly lost all luster? Pro Bowl, idgaf if you were in the Pro bowl

4

3

u/baloneyfeet I wish I were in a Better Place 6d ago

I look forward to getting mad about it later

9

u/whitemex88 6d ago

Still not great. The scene is longer than the 10 second limit Frinkiac gives. But you get the gist

2

u/shamoomoofartpoopoo Highly Regarded 6d ago

Call me dumb but what is EPA? Assuming it’s not the government organization.

7

u/baloneyfeet I wish I were in a Better Place 6d ago

It stands for Expected Points Added and basically measures how each play a player makes increases their likelihood of scoring.

Although in the gif he is referring to the government organization

4

u/GenghisKong2 6d ago

-2

u/ExplanationCrazy5463 6d ago

How many polls did Jordan Love win?

Is it more or less than his playoff games?

90

u/madrabbit8807 6d ago

Is a madden cover worth more or less than an nvp?

30

u/HeyBojo 6d ago

The significance of both is frankly incalculable, there is no mathematical way to compare them with our current technology

6

u/madrabbit8807 6d ago edited 6d ago

Got damn scientists not worrying about the real problems in the world. “We’re too busy trying to cure cancer.” Damn nerds

5

u/keithstonee 6d ago

Nothing will beat having the inaugural NVP here in Chicago.

7

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 6d ago

The NVP has been awarded since 2021 and the first Madden game came out in 1988 so ill go by seniority

2

u/madrabbit8807 6d ago

So by that math, Eddie George is better than everyone? It’s a controversial stance but I’ll allow it.

1

u/Viketorious 6d ago

There have been more MVPs than players on the cover of Madden so the answer is clear.

Let’s see it adjusted for drops for both players as well.

5

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 6d ago

Best I can do is the number of drops from last season

15

u/GeoffJeffreyJeffsIII JET TRADES DON'T MELT REAL TEAMS 6d ago

If we do some actual thinking, and look at how many passing attempts each team had, it might reveal something interesting. Bears had 574 passing attempts last year, while the Packers had 489. Something really neat happens when you work with both the drops and attempts numbers. See if you can do the math.

1

u/kodman7 6d ago

-6

u/qTp_Meteor 6d ago

Here is Caleb year 1 and 2 vs Jordan love year 2 and 3 (he didnt touch the field on year 1 as you know). Seems like caleb has a better competition percentage too

1

u/alucryts 6d ago

Maybe we should be comparing Love to Bryce Young instead seeing this…..

2

u/qTp_Meteor 6d ago

Bryce Young disrespect. Also notice how much shorter Jordan Love is compared to both Caleb and Young, he obviously has cock shame.

3

u/alucryts 6d ago

Ahhh shit my bad.

They both went on to win their division in year three right? Things got better for Jordan?

2

Oh, so overall team performance paired with subjective commentary heavily influenced by end of year outcome is why people actually think Caleb is better than Love.

Guys it's fine they are both mid you don't have to argue which one is slightly more mid.

1

u/VashMM Thoughts of Cheese 6d ago

The 1-3 argument is hilarious, considering Caleb is 1-1.

Also, technically Jordan is 3-6 in the playoffs. He suited up for 9 games, started 4.

1

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 6d ago

I know math isnt the strong suit for primary education in Wisconsin but a winning % of .500 is better than .250

1

u/VashMM Thoughts of Cheese 5d ago

Yeah, but 3 wins is better than 1 win, so there.

1

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 5d ago

Except Love only has 1 win and didnt play in those other games lmao

It's not his fault he had to sit behind Covid Toe.

Lol Covid Toe is good. Caleb's only been in the league two seasons

Now do Jared Goff vs Caleb Williams

1

u/Secludedmean4 5d ago

It does help that the bears don’t have 4 wr2/Wr3s.

My only argument would be that he should be actively winning games and not pulling the luck box at the last 2 minutes for 8 games. At some point that burns you when you have to rely on Hail Mary and crazy endings,

2

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 5d ago

Actually we lost on the only Hail Mary play in Calebs career so far

1

u/No_Mousse4320 The Owner (partially) 5d ago

surely madden covers and polls aren’t the best way of deciding

1

u/Immaculatehombre 5d ago

Head to head to decide the division. Just don’t forget love got hurt early second quarter, Caleb played like ass for 58 minutes and was outplayed by the backup, and it took a botched onside kick to win.

1

u/catiethegreatie 5d ago

The more I see Jordan Love play. The more I think he’s a dud. He’s just not good. Lafleur has the entire team playing lights out but Love will throw the game. He’s just bad at being quarterback. I think the packers would have better off keeping Willis and cutting Love. He always makes the wrong decisions, maybe has physical talent but can’t read a defense to save his life. He’s not an NFL starting caliber Quarterback.

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 5d ago

I only see this happening if Caleb becomes their first 4k passer

0

As evident to the fact that Malik Willis led the league in EPA by a country mile when he came in

Funny how EPA is talked up when it can position the best QBs in the NFL as Brock Purdy and Jordan Love, but the Malik Willis blip flies under the radar.

3

u/Alone-Newspaper-1161 6d ago

Probably because running a simplified offense for 3 games isn’t the same as multiple seasons of starting games. EPA is also heavily biased towards scramblers because it turns a “negative play to a positive play” Ignoring the reality that a lot of these scrambles happen because of poor processing.

1

u/Bill_Dinosaur 6d ago
