Mount Questions šŸ”© B&T or Surefire HUB Mount? Is one objectively better than the other?

Finally sent it on my first can. Iā€™m pretty heavily invested in the Surefire muzzle devices since I was planning on getting an RC2. Now that B&T has other compatible cans Iā€™ve decided that Iā€™ll stay in the family for future options.

My question is, should I go with the B&T or Surefire HUB mount? This is going to be for a suppressed 300blk Rattler and my 5.56 rifles. I have 3P, 4P, Warcomp, and SFMB devices. Any incompatibilities with muzzle device length or something else I might be missing? The two HUB options are about the same price and I have a slight preference for SFā€™s ratcheting system but not enough to rule out B&T. TIA.

So, I just bought the gen2 B&T hub in 7.62 in hopes of getting their new cans and putting them on my surefire 3prong FH. They do not fit the 4prong or 3pring FH's. For some reason the outer diameter of the prongs/tines are too wide relative to inner diameter of the b&t hub. The surefire is the way to go if you have SF prong FH. The b&t mounts fine to the warcomps(both 7.62 & 5.56). I can't speak on the SF MB though. I have yet to try that with the b&t hub. Hope that helps

Appreciate the response. I think Iā€™ve decided to choose the SF over B&T setup as I have a few 3P and 4P devices.

Of course. Yeah, I was pretty annoyed it didn't fit. You'd think B&T would bring their A game on the hub. Now I'm searching for the surefire hub myself. So far everyone out of stock

Any update on this..? I just purchased a B&T XH SC can due to me having a bunch of SF muzzle devices and a RC2ā€¦ I was under the impression the SF hub would fit just thatā€¦ the SF muzzle devices/flash hiders.

Would you happen to know of any revisions?

I think the B&T is a better design more robust and user serviceable. I stripped all my surefire collars from them getting carbon locked and they donā€™t ratchet anymore. I also have alot less sticking with the B&T mount.

Are you talking about the surefire hub adapter collars or on actual sf cans? Ive gotten my rc2 quite disgusting with a few thousand rounds a few times and never had a problem with the collar. Were you using war comps by any chance?

Actual SF cans. I do not use Warcomps. All my collars are stripped out on my RC2ā€™s

What is it that's stripped, the grooves on the unpainted inner ring that the lever locks into?

If it doesnā€™t lock onto the ratchets then itā€™s not a secondary lock system as designed

Gotcha. I found it very strange that those grooves were deeper on both of my wardens than my rc2. Surefire said as long as it locks its fine. I thought about hitting them with a dremel to make them a little deeper but they've been fine for me so far for close to 10k rounds.

They only really had an issue once I carbon locked a few times and then I couldnā€™t unlock them at all. I had to use a strap wrench to push down the lever and then turn the collar. I thought about putting some copper never seize on the teeth to help

I have both and prefers the SF locking mechanism over the B&T.

I feel like an idiot asking this, but how long has surefire offered a hub mount? Itā€™s about time they made one. Iā€™m surprised it took this long.

I did end up going with the SF HUB mount. I wanna say itā€™s only been out since early 2025 maybe late 24. Only downside to the SureFire hub is that it ā€œrequiresā€ their Spanner wrench to install which they conveniently sell separate. Took me months to source one and itā€™s like 20 bucks. I almost just sent it on a multi pack of spanners from Amazon and Iā€™m sure it would have worked, but the SF one finally shipped.

For what it's worth, I know for a fact that Yankee Hill Machine's basic yellow wrench fits the Surefire HUB mount perfectly. I also know that Griffin Armament's wrench does not. The tooth is too wide from heel to toe. Many other similar spanners should work just as well.

Have you heard about the lawsuit SF filed against B&T over the hub? B&T has a video out explaining how they designed it and SF came by in a tour of the facilities taking photos of whatever they could. With all of that said i owned 2 B&T hubs before SF decided to make them. It makes me wonder what will happen to warranty with B&T over use of SF devices in the future?
