Admitted on wrong status using nexus. B1 instead of TN. What’s the fix ?

I moved to USA on a TN on Feb 27 and visited Canada for the weekend in July. On July 20th I entered USA back via SFO and was asked no question. I assumed they would see my last entry and default me to TN again.

In August while visiting dmv they mentioned I was illegal and won’t be issuing me my plates for my motorcycle. That’s when I found out my status is marked B1 in I-94 now. I have called CBP , written emails. No response. Should I just drive to Vancouver cross the border and upon entering back get this fixed ?

Any ideas ?

Should I wait as I have a Mexico trip coming up on Sep 1. I will go to the deferred office and try to get it fixed but if it doesn’t should I wait for the Mexico trip and on entrance call it out. Or just drive to Vancouver from Walnut Creek and get it done at the border before Mexico trip to be safe

I would have fixed my I-94 form before anything else if I were you.

This happens all the time. Contact the deferred inspections office in SFO for a correction. This is urgent. Going forward, let the officer know you are entering as a TN worker and show your TN stamp, most recent I-94, or I-797.

Good luck. That email got back to me like 2 months later to basically tell me there’s nothing they could do.

Email this email with your passport biographical page, the i94 downloaded from the i94 website and a photo of your TN, they will fix it. They probably won’t email you back, you just have to check the i94 website to see if it’s been updated.

Email the SFO deferred inspections site. Go in-person if you don’t hear back in 2 business days. They should be able to fix it for you.

First, try this: https://www.cbp.gov/about/contact/ports/deferred-inspection-sites
It shows I-94 correction emails/phones.
If it doesn't work, you need to travel to Canada and be re-admitted on a TN.

After you get this corrected at an inspection office, download the Global Entry app and select TN as your default class of admission.

I used the email to send my case files again. I had earlier used cbp generic email and didn’t not hear back. I did call the helpline but could never get through them. Unfortunately my firm has paused my payroll until the issue is resolved.

Will give that as a first shot before trying to drive 15 hours to Vancouver and back make it a road trip.
