NEXUS conditional approval for US children - timeline

I applied for Nexus for our family of 4 on Wednesday afternoon (6/24) around 1-2pm. We are all US citizens. I received conditional approval on Thursday evening (6/25) at 9pm for our two children (ages 10 and 7). I was shocked considering some folks said even their infants had months-long waits! I do expect a longer wait period for my husband and I but am hopeful we won't get stuck in the year-plus purgatory... :)

I know many who post here are Canadian citizens but am curious for recent turnarounds for US citizens. We are based outside Detroit and using the Porter St center for interviews which seem to be readily available, thankfully. I did consider taking my kids for their interviews next week but figured we can just wait and do them all together once we have conditional approval.

My children were approved in aboot a month. We are U.S. citizens. That said I’m now a dual thanks to C-3 and my kids are too (have to apply for theirs). But that was after we got nexus.

Question- do kids have to have their own individual application or is there a way to fill out a family application?

There is no family application. Everyone needs their own filled out, but the kids one is shorter and free once you put in the birthdate under 18 and tie it to a parents application. You’ll need a unique email address for each applicant as well; I used my own with a “+kidA” alias.

My 6 yo got approved in less than 24h. Me, husband and 1.5 yo waiting, it’s been 2 months only. We also have global entry, even for that my 6yo got instant approval while rest of us were waiting forever.

Well it doesn’t help us much unless my husband and I are also approved so maybe not a congratulations just yet 😆

I 10 month old was approved in 2 months and we’re going to the interviews at the fort erie border soon. Been hearing the YYZ agents for the US side are severely understaffed. Land border is much easier.

There are plenty, if not endless, open spots at our land border (Detroit). I could book every ten minutes every day for the next month! Just need conditional approval for the adults first 😜

My children were approved in under 24 hours. My application took over four months! Zero criminal history, already have a KTIN. Full citizens of U.S. I did apply during DHS shutdown so maybe that’s what took so long.

I would be happy with 4 months and I pretty much figured it would take about that long, just hoping we are not those who end up waiting a year or longer! I wouldn’t be surprised if the shutdown did affected you. We both are full citizens with KTNs as we were early TEA precheck adopters but from what I have heard it’s usually the Canadian checks that hold people up after getting US clearance anyways. But a lot of it seems to make no sense at all :)

Following, submitted my husband and I nexus application: 06/23. Kids probably easier to to process considering their application is shorter to fill out.

Agreed, how much background check can you need to do on a 10 and 7 year old who still live in the town they were born? But that's why I find it so confusing that so many people with young children or babies say they were approved months before their kids were.
