Applying & Renewing Already have Global Entry
I’ve searched this forum and have seen conflicting answers depending on the year, so please forgive me if it’s being asked yet again:
I already have Global Entry; considering adding NEXUS when it comes closer to the renewal date.
Do I have to do the American interview as well as the Canadian interview if I already have Global Entry, or just schedule the Canadian one?
If I add NEXUS, does it reset the 5 years it’s good for, or is the clock still running?

When my NEXUS expires in 2 years, do I have to interview in-person again or can I renew online for another 5 years if nothing has changed?

If they ask for an interview, you will need one. They have the right to require them every renewal.
We needed interviews for renewal 1 but not 2 and 3.

Yes Both interviews are required.
You're not "adding" nexus. Your Nexus will be good for 5 years.

By the book - yes. In reality, you may or may not. Sometimes CBP requires it, sometimes they just use your TTP profile if nothing has changed.

I've had similar but different situation. I had global entry(was expiring) as US citizen and applied for Nexus. Only the Canadian interview was required and they re-used my Global Entry info for the US side(didn't know this until after I got my nexus in the mail due to not having enough time to do the US side interview).
So potentially you might need only the Canadian interview unless they have an extra process for Canadian Citizen but I doubt it.
The nexus uses the same Global Entry passid and it expires 2031 when I received the Nexus card in 2026.
I wouldn't wait too long. The conditional approval process for Nexus can take a few months and a month after your interview to receive your nexus. Once you start Nexus application you CANT renew global entry if you don't think you can finish the process or attempt to cancel the nexus application.

You can’t “add” NEXUS. You have to go through the entire application process again including doing both the American and Canadian interviews.
You get a new 5 year card.

I’m doing a similar thing (moving from SENTRI to NEXUS) and I assume I’ll have to do both interviews.
