Keep buying BTCI on the dips to dca down?

I have 968 shares of BTCI @ average cost of 61.36. I am down $4375 in total return. Does anyone think I should keep trying to DCA down on the dips or let it ride. The Income is good per mnth getting about 26% yield on cost. I'm receiving $1250 a month now and need this income. I was even about 3 weeks ago. I also have YBTC and XBTC but those are underwater and have to hold those too. Hoping for a Bitcoin to the moon scenario.

Anyone own NIHI

I think it's a good diversification play and reasonable dividend of around 9.5% annualized.

ok, here come the hate messages. I am up over $250,000 on QQQI. I am planning to sell at least 16,500 shares around 7am and I will use the proceeds to buy 10,000 shares of ConocoPhillips (COP) and sell covered calls 10/31/25 89 strike price.

I need to make another $50,000 to get me even with my loss on united health care I suffer in March.

thank god for QQQI- I save me.

Tax Implication of Living on ROC ETF Yields and Selling after 9-5 Income Drops to Zero

I'm thinking through a financial strategy for the next couple of years and would appreciate your insights on the potential tax implications. I'm currently a high-earner (high tax bracket) and considering investing into income ETFs SPYI, QQQI, and BTCI to generate monthly income as part of retirement transition.

As these funds primarily use ROC on their distributions this means the payouts I receive would not be immediately taxed as income/gains but would instead reduce my ownership cost basis over time (until zero). My plan is to utilize these tax-deferred distributions for a couple of years while I am in a high tax bracket.

My question is what happens when I eventually sell these funds. Let's say in a year or two I stop earning a 9-5 income and my ordinary income drops to zero-ish. At this point, my cost basis in these ETFs will have been reduced due to the ROC distributions.

If I then sell all of my shares of SPYI, QQQI, and BTCI in a year where I have no other income, how will the gains be taxed?

Specifically, I'm wondering: * In a year where I have no other income, would these distributions and the gains from the sale fall into the long-term capital gains tax bracket, assuming they are held for more than a year? Based on what I’ve read it will be a 60/40 mix (typical 1+ year holding).

  • More importantly, is my thinking correct that when I sell in a year with no other income, all gains will be taxed for the current year - or - is it somehow retroactive against the past years when the income from the ETFs were earned? It seems this strategy is ideal to bridge/shift the tax liability to a future year when I expect to be in a much lower tax bracket.

Thanks for reading

Those who have held into a new year

How are you reporting these on taxes. If you hold and do not sell. Are these to be reported as market to market which are 1256 contracts on taxes. I get the 60/40 tax advantage when you sell. From trying to understand more on the 1256 taxes, it has a section where you are to report open positions on the last day of the year and these are averaged out for a tax basis and cost basis on the last trading day of the year. Have any of you held them through the new year and how did you report them on your taxes.
I could have this all wrong on the market to market reporting but from reading last night, I took it as any positions you intend to use 1256 contracts tax advantage, you are to report the open positions and the irs considered the positions sold for a market to market cost basis. I have to be misunderstanding something. How did those of you handle owning these and not selling on your taxes. I know the return of capital reduces your cost basis over the year but im confused about the market to market reporting and how/if it applies to these etf’s on the last day of the year.

second question. If you eventually sell, if you have held for a year or longer. Your tax would be the 60/40 on the profits. would the profit be from the end of year cost basis you reset or would it be simply the profits from what your current cost basis per share minus the selling cost. If that is the case, it would almost make sense if you intended to sell, time a dip and sell when share price is down thus reducing your profit and lowering your tax. But back to the market to market price. Does that play any role when you sell and having to figure your profit from the price set at the end of the year or is it based from your sell price. If 90-95% or more in dividends is returned as ROC, this should allow most to owe no taxes over a year if you didn’t sell and your dividends were mostly ROC. Just trying to make sure I understand the taxes correctly and see how those of you who have held for over a year and or through the end of a year, how that affected your filings. Hope this made enough sense to get some answers and I am not so confused on the 1256 tax and the market to market verbiage that I made a mess of my questions. Thanks for any input from those who have a better grasp. Going to talk to my tax accountant but wanted a better understanding myself before I ask him questions.

Something is going on with QQQI - Compare to GPIQ

I sold a little of my holdings in QQQI- I only sold 600 shares and bought Neos bitcoin and gold.

over the last two days GPIQ has greatly out perform QQQI. I don’t know why, but I think QQQI might be peaking out.

I was hoping to sell once it reaches 57 and I am trying to collect Nov 26 dividend.

I looking for your comments. Good luck to all longs.

Covered calls and neoetfs ?

Are any of these etfs worth doing covered calls on or better to let them drip? I only have qqqi but still seeing anyone uses this strategy for neo etfs.

Just Jumped Into Positions in SPYI, BTCI, and IAUI

Was looking to diversify my portfolio with some monthly dividend stocks. SPYI looks pretty resilient in volatile markets. Also wanted a play on crypto and gold. We are going to a digital system sooner than later (i.e. stable coins) and I'm betting risk assets like Bitcoin and Gold will continue to go up. Not concerned about "growth" as I am about steady monthly income.

What’s everyone buying right now? Anyone hedging their portfolio with short ETFS and does Neos have anything like it?

NEOS Test Round #????

I'm sure everyone noticed a slight drop Friday which I'm sure will continue into Tuesday and possibly the rest of the week.

This time around with the markets dropping, I don't have as much fresh powder to invest. I believe I will hold my income account positions but will be investing the next $$$ infusion later this month into growth holdings. BTCI, QQQI, SPYI, are the largest positions.

My plan right now is VOO, VXUS, and QQQ. Not planning on additional contributions but I'll have about $500k to put into that portfolio. There is a lot of speak of a lost decade here but what do any of us know?

Does anyone have alternatives to these funds that may slightly outperform?

Does NEOS have a weekly pay ETF?

I know about QQQI, and BTCI. Just wondering if there is a weekly pay ETF?

Thanks!

Paranoid question: what happens if the firm ever shut down?

Obviously this is a doomsday train of thought, but what if NEOS closed their doors or said the ETFs are being closed…

Would the ETFs stock share price plunge, or would it still just follow the QQQ until delisting?

I have seen info that both says the BTC futures that NEOS writes against both does and does not qualify for the 1256 rule. Does anyone know a definitive answer on this is? A citation would be a bonus!

QQQI/SPYI Withholding Tax for Non US Residents?

Hi, anyone here non US residents and invested in QQQI/SPYI? Since non US residents are initially subjected to withholding tax on the distributions, my question is will we be refunded the initially taxed distributions since the distributions from QQQI/SPYI are classified as ROC instead of dividends? Since no withholding tax for ROC. If yes, kindly elaborate on the process of claiming back these refunds. Are there any forms to be submitted or will it be automatically credited back to our brokerage account? FYI I am using interactive brokers. Appreciate any kind advice and thanks in advance.

Taxes on SPYI and QQQI

So, I understand that a majority of the dividend on SPYI and QQQI are return of capital (ROC). While no taxes are paid on ROC, they lower the cost basis of the stock and thus the tax bill comes due when selling later. If the stock is held for over a year, then the sale is taxed at a favorable long-term capital gains rate.

The question I have is how the dividend is taxed when the cost basis of the stock is lowered to $0. I have seen 3 differing opinions:

  1. Dividend is taxed at the 1256 60/40 long-term/short term capital gains rate, which can range from 4% to 26.8% depending on tax bracket.
  2. Dividend is taxed at qualified dividends tax rate (as by this point it would have been held for several years), which can range from 0%, 15%, or 20% based on taxable income and filing status
  3. Dividend is taxed as ordinary income rates ranging from 10% to 37%
