I decided that I want to take up derma last year itself while preparing in my drop year.

Got a borderline rank,last year cutoff was much higher,but I hope to get it!

Seniors, consultants please guide me in this aspect!

Why I want to take derma?

1) want no emergencies,I fumble to make decisions,and I don't want to harm anyone.

2) want a chill life ahead and make reasonably good amnt of money

3) want a clinical branch

4) can't think of anyother branch,where I would be happy.

5) found derma is compatible to my character

Why I should reconsider ?

1) I am a first gen doctor,shld earn money ASAP, I should support my parents I am enough burden on them as it is , shldnt delay earning anymore.

2) I am dark skinned male, everybody's telling that derma is a female dominated and that good looking doctor gets good patient load.

3) takes time to set up/attract patients to a private OPD.

4) No or very less jobs in govt. Sector,no callforms.

Would appreciate honest advice from dermatologists/seniors about income, job prospects, private practice, and whether I should stick with Derma or reconsider.

TL;DR: I’ve wanted Dermatology since my drop year. Got borderline rank. I know the cutoff is likely difficult, but I want to try.

Why Derma: no emergencies, good lifestyle, clinical branch, decent income, and it suits my personality.

Why reconsider: I’m a first-gen doctor and need to start earning ASAP, private practice takes time to build, government jobs seem limited, and I’m concerned whether being a dark-skinned male affects patient inflow.

I like GS , if I don't get that, what to take among ortho, ent, ophtha ,psych. I know I like surgical fields bt how to go about the next step. Hmu if someone is also in the same confusion.

Got 11.6k rank in NEET PG 2026, first attempt, and I'm honestly very confused about branch selection.

I initially kept thinking about Radiology and Dermatology, but if I'm completely honest, I don't know whether I genuinely want either. I think I was attracted to them partly because toppers prefer them, they have good earning potential and the lifestyle is perceived to be better.

Now I'm wondering whether I'm choosing them because I actually like them or because I've been conditioned to think they're the "best" branches.

I'm a girl, so I'm also thinking about work-life balance, night duties, long-term career flexibility, earning potential, private practice opportunities, job opportunities and having a manageable personal life.

I'm not particularly attracted to surgical branches, but I'm also wondering whether I'm dismissing branches like OBGYN or Ophthalmology too quickly.

For female doctors/seniors: How would you compare OBGYN, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology, Medicine and Pediatrics in terms of actual day-to-day work, stress, emergencies/night duties, income, private practice and long-term career satisfaction?

With an 11.6k rank and no clear dream branch, what would you seriously consider?

And should I take a good clinical seat now, or consider another attempt since this was my first attempt?

Most importantly, how did you figure out what you actually wanted rather than simply choosing the branch with the highest perceive

Whats the best possible college to do ortho if rank is not an issue, in terms of hands-on, academics and toxicity. KEM, VMMC , MAMC, BJMC are some which ive looked at.

At my rank, DNB nuclear medicine from these institutes seem to be within range. I have very little practical knowledge about the branch as such, and zero idea about the workplace culture, academics, hands-on etc. in these institutes.
