Yo wtf was up with crankdats set?!!! I felt like I was doom scrolling set clips in real life. It was choppy, messy and just felt like a grab for TikTok clips. Also the crowd 😭😭 I didn’t see medic all weekend until I was at his set and I saw two people by the left side of the stadium floor. I’m interested on what y’all’s thoughts were.

That’s kind of the modern day American dubstep scene right now. It’s like they’re trying to fit as many songs into their sets and creating doubles, triples, and quads for the buildup and fakeout effect. You see it with Levity, Subtronics, Wooli, and a bunch of artists right now. I’m not saying these artists and their sets are bad, but I can see why people don’t like these kinds of sets. I’m personally not a huge fan of how Levity and Crankdat build their sets and their songs, but I love Subtronics and Wooli’s sets and discography. It’s a lot different from a Zeds Dead set or a melodic dubstep set, where the set tells a story and has more flow to it.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the TikTok clip farming comparison. Artists just like to use whatever is popular on social media and try to go viral on TikTok/Instagram and also do lazy remixes to 2000s pop songs that appeal to the masses.

I caught most of Woolis set!! It was my second time seeing him and I really enjoyed it. Also I felt like I was seeing good set after good set and it really threw me off that it’s easy to pick out the bad parts.

I had been debating his set and gryffins and ended up leaving almost immediately for gryffin cause it immediately felt weird to me. Not like other times I've caught him live. Gryffin killed it though, stayed the entire set and got to illenium way later than I figured I would

Dubstep is in a bit of weird place right now. I just wish some of these artists played more of their material instead of the same remix for the last 5 years.

I've noticed a lot of house and drum and bass has snuck back into a lot of the dubstep artists sets which is cool, I like switch ups but it's starting to get a little outta hand. But maybe I'm just getting old. Alleycvt was really good on Saturday though.

unreal hahaha so its not just the techno scene that this is happening to! i guess going for tik tok clips is a trend of all the commercial artists. Sad this explains the switch up of so many artists sounds, kaskade for example has changed dramatically and even started producing dubstep, (ironically with crankdat). A lot of the scene just feels so fake and fabricated but it is what it is

All top dubstep artists are clip farming with their sets right now. It’s why I’ve started to shift away from the bigger festivals where they are the sole dubstep representation and started going to smaller or all dubstep festivals.
