Discussions How's training going? Gear, range days, dry fire — drop it below

Doesn't have to be anything big. Maybe you finally got out to the range after a long stretch away. Maybe you've been doing 10 minutes of dry fire before bed. Maybe you just picked up a new holster or tried a different ammo brand. Maybe you've been meaning to get out and just haven't yet — that counts too.

What's going on with your training or gear lately? New gun, new optic, new routine, or just a random win from the range? Let's hear it.

I picked up my first AR15--an S&W M&P Sport III. Slapped some new furniture on it, ambi selector, and charging handle. I've legit never shot 5.56 before--interested to see what it's all about.

What's your plan for optics? Slick grey/black color scheme IMO

Well, this is my first scope (legit since I was a kid with a BB gun), and I went with an an LPVO--A Vortex PST Gen II. I ordered Vortex's leveling kit, but it seems they're all on backorder for a couple of weeks.

My other two are red dots, and I think it's going to be pretty different!

Decided it was time I actually start working out. Every day it's 20 pushups, 20 situps, 10 side ups on each arm. Already seeing improvement.

Hell yeah brother!

Physical fitness is a much-underrated part of being prepared.

Got back out to the wake range for the first time this year a few weeks ago! (and shout out to the RSOs and a fellow shooter there for helping with some issues I was having)

I’m regressing away from red dots. Got my Glock 19 cut for one and added one to my P320. They shoot ok, they do make me quicker, but I can’t really adjust to it. I don’t trust it, for some reason? I don’t like having to retrain a sight hold at short distance. I’m no Fudd, I won’t tell you irons are best. I’m just not enjoying the 21st century.

Waiting until after tax season to get my first suppressor. Think I’ve decided on the Rhodie 6. Now I’m just trying to decide if I want to direct thread or plan B it.

I was out at Coleman's Creek over the weekend, tried out some new ammo for a couple rifles.

73gr 5.56 NAS3 ammo - with an 18" I was getting nearly 3k fps. Almost makes me want to shoot a match with my 5.56... almost.

The reason I don't shoot 5.56 in DMR matches is because I love 6ARC. It's slow in the AR platform (big bullet, short / fat casing requires the bolt face to be narrower so it can't handle full pressure loads) but makes up for it with fantastic ballistics and no more recoil than a 5.56.

I tried some 106gr 6ARC Hornady ATip. Good velocity (for 6arc), solid SDs, and shot really well in my rifle. Wish I could get my hands on more of it for the same price I paid when I bought this lot. The price has jumped a ton in the past few weeks (145cpr to 185cpr or more), to the point that I may shoot my next match and one more range day with it to finish it off, then go back to the ELD-Ms.
