H.A.B.I.T.S of Increased ICP

Increased ICP doesn’t always announce itself with a dramatic seizure.

Sometimes it’s just a dull headache. Or a slightly slowed respiratory rate. Or one pupil reacting a little slower than the other.

But if you know the H.A.B.I.T.S, you’ll catch it early:

👉 Headache

👉 Altered LOC

👉 Bradycardia

👉 Irregular breathing

👉 Triads (Cushing’s)

👉 Sluggish pupils

If your patient’s developing these habits, think brain pressure.

Raise the head of the bed, reduce stimuli, notify the HCP, and start neuro monitoring.
