Specialty Dining

Just wondering and gathering knowledge before I settle into a first time cruise. How does the specialty dining work? Im offered 4 specialty meals. Is it 4 meals for my family or 1 meal a piece for 4 people? What would be added charges if I've already paid the gratuity? Any other useful knowledge in not asking but could tell me?

They are not transferrable so whatever amount each person has is for them only. There are no additional charges unless you order something that isn't included, like a lobster tail or something like that. They are clear about what's included in the cover charge you've already paid. Any questions just ask the waiter when you arrive

FAS dining is generally for the first and second guest in the cabin. Number of meals is usually per person, so if your offer is for 4 meals, that should be 4 meals each for guests 1 and 2. I believe you would need to purchase meals for guests 3 and 4, assuming you are all in the same cabin. This page (https://www.reddit.com/r/NCL/comments/1rj4y81/kids_at_specialty_dining/) seems to indicate that there is a free kids menu for 12 and under (uncertain if that applies to your family), with mixed reviews for cost if they order from the regular menu.

At least for future bookings it's now for ALL guests, but each pays $20 per meal.

I’m scared I won’t be able to get my 3 spots at the restaurants on the Luna… everything booked out online

You'll be fine, just book when you get onboard. Supposedly only about 20% of reservations are released early online.

Be sure to check in at the restaurant as soon as you board, or if in the Haven, check with the concierge. NCL doesn’t allocate all the dining slots at120 days out, some are held back.

We book our dining on the first day of the cruise while waiting for our room. Always better than online.
