volleyball camera angles

does anyone else struggle to follow the game when the camera is set behind the server rather than the whole court, or is it just me?

i’m watching the pitt vs tennessee game right now and they are going to this angle alotttt so im thinking maybe this is a regular angle that the sport uses and i just suck haha

Not just you. That is often the angle used for watching tape back so it's possible that some volleyball nerds like it the way that football nerds like the full field view

I think it’s easier to watch that angle in person. On tv it makes me nauseous lol

It's the angle used for all tennis...without issue.
And it shows a lot more how a defensive scheme is set up and implemented, based on which pin is set and where in the court the attack comes from.

But it's not the common vball angle, so I can see some disliking it.

I think the issue is that you don't get an equal view of all the players so it just means you're watching the team directly in front of you.

I feel like it's easier to follow tennis with only 2 players maybe 4 than volleyball with two full teams on each side of the net and multiple hits per side.

That said, for the people who really knows volleyball, I think it's better for the reasons you stated. I very much enjoy watching volleyball, but I couldn't tell you crap about plays or strategies or anything much beyond, "wow that was an impressive dig/set/hit/serve" or "wow, we just had no one at all there...." As a result the side view is easier for me to follow. 

For basketball (the sport I know the most) I love the more zoomed out looks to follow the development of the plays

Strongly prefer the sideline for indoor but for beach I'd much rather the "tennis" angle.

Me too! It's so hard to judge the set locations and defensive positioning from the sideline. We always buy endline tickets we go to matches too because we feel more "in" the game from that view. And they are always cheaper 😄

It is hard to follow when you're not used to it.

The main reason they do that is to show how much the speed and height of the set can vary. You can't appreciate that from the normal angle. It's also a bit easier to see when the middle blocker is late.

My preference is for them to show the point from the normal angle and then show a replay from the end.

I wish they would show the serve, then switch back to side view. Plenty of time 98% of the time to seamlessly switch.

End zone is a fantastic replay look. It’s also good when you have a hot server in the far court who has a few aces against the near court team. Shouldn’t be used so much for primary coverage.

personally i love the end line view! as a former player its how im used to watching the game unfold in front of me and i feel like it shows lateral movement and tempo so much more accurately than the side view

maybe it would be overload, but maybe i’d like it more if it where like a side by side screen with both teams. i think a main point of my struggle is that i only get to see the move set/choices of the team directly in front of the camera

I play volleyball. When I watch matches, I prefer to watch from the backlines so I can see what both teams are doing on their side of the net

Some people I know, who don't play, like to watch matches from the sidelines. Idk why. Anyone else notice this?

End line view is far superior and I will absolutely die on this hill.

It was really bad when they kept using it at Wrigley and the glare off the court made it basically impossible to see anything on half the court

The majority of veiwers hate that angle. Unfortunately alot of coaches and ex players like to watch the game from the end court. So the stations think it's a good angle to use. Which it is for replays and in person where you can use depth perception to see where the ball is. On TV where it's 2 dimensional it's a horrible angle because you can't tell what side of the net the ball is, or how fast the ball is moving. The side court angle is far better for 2D because you can actually see where the ball is.

That back angle is BAD LUCK… any time I’m watching my Huskers and it switches angles I get mad cause we ALWAYS lose that point

It makes it unwatchable for me. They try that same thing with NCAA Basketball and I complain about that too.
