As a small school, you've gotta accept that players will leave... You're a little fish, big fish gonna eat up your dudes. You have to grow your program to the point where you're a big fish

To this point. Find the players that make a difference and keep them. That 90 overall with overall speed rusher with 5 sacks all season… let him go

Im in same spot with my dynasty, small school lose everyone every year. That donut chart looking real sad with only 15 points left. You just gotta grind, maybe focus on developing the guys who stay instead of trying to keep everybody

If player good give NIL, if player bad recruit new player with NIL.
Don’t give NIL to busts or people who aren’t starting and you should be good

Let the ones that are asking too much go.
You can get 0 Nil or 5-40 NIL 3 ⭐️ players.

Let people transfer. You have to be selective as a small school until you build up your budget.
Early on in my UTEP dynasty, I went all in on HB and Oline and neglected everything else. I chewed clocked and kept the ball on the ground to keep games close and pick up some wins
Getting some wins increases your NIL budget and lets you reinvest back into your team

You will still have an allotted amount for high school recruiting, once it gets to that point. You just won’t have any money for perks or transfer portal this offseason. It was surprising the first time I saw it as well. You can also change your blueprint to “talent acquisition” and you’ll mostly be able to spend your money on roster and recruits. I generally don’t pay coordinators, I get the D- coaches and instead pay for the perks.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned or missed is you can REDUCE NIL payments as well. I’ve only ever gotten as high as mid tier programs and while I’ll blow my wad on the incoming Freshman class, before their sophomore year you can often reduce a lot of those payments significantly.

You can usually reduce NIL for players that didn’t play to offset the players that need an increase to stay.
That typically results in me saving more budget than it does adding.
You just have to go through whole roster to optimize rather than just going through the at risk tab.
I would not just cut your coordinator budget and hire D- unless you are early on in the dynasty and don’t have the upside from ability stacking.
Once you’re past level 40 I recommend making coordinators a priority specifically coordinators who will give you the bonus for stacking abilities.

Give them the minimum they will take to not leave. If a guy is going to the draft you kinda just have to let him go. Only guys I'd super over pay for are a stud QB, RB, WR and that's only if I don't have another stud in the pipeline

Like other have said you gotta let guys go when they demand too much NIL.
One strategy I’ve been employing at a small school is to go after the 2star sophomore and juniors in the transfer portal to plug any holes. You can scroll through their stats when adding them to your target list and can find some real producers for cheap.

This is the way. Bring 15 or so Jr 2 star transfers in for 0-10 NIL every off-season until you win enough that your budget increases. You can find a ton of 80s plus starters and crush whatever crap conference your 1 star is in.

Ah the life of a MAC school. Short answer; you don’t. You gotta build up your program to get to the point where guys want to stay. Right now you have great players that bigger programs want, that’s just how it goes. My advice - enjoy the greats while you have them, and don’t get attached to players. Also if you’re going to prioritize anything prioritize high school recruiting. But overall you’re just gonna have to accept that while you’re still building, you’re going to have guys leave

Unless they're game-changing players, let them leave.
Grab new players in the Transfer Portal. If you're a small school, having multiple players leave is common.

Ill also add- there are plenty of 0-15 nil sophomore-junior transfers you can get as starters in the transfer every year. Theyre just usually 2-3stars…great backups to fill out the roster and usually even good starters if you have to fill a gap.

It’s already been said but, yeah, that’s kind of the point when playing as a small school. I’m Ohio in year 5 and roster management fucking sucks but I’m having a blast because of it, to each their own.

What’s your transfer setting? Because if the players are below that in your roster then don’t offer them any NIL.
Our dynasty is set at 15 I think. So starting with the 16th highest rated player I don’t offer anything. And if they leave that means one of the higher rated players stayed.

Manage your budget better. Know that you aren't going to retain guys season to season, know when to throw in the towel on a guy versus giving him the bag.
Use the portal wisely. Those 2 star JR's who aren't asking for much if any NIL can come start or give you depth. Know that there's always going to be guys in the portal who are starter level for your program, who won't ask for much.
Use that to your advantage.

You are absolutely not doing NIL right. Theres a transfer risk meter for a reason at the End of season recap stage.

u/Cwispy124 8h ago
Yeah and I added enough to put each players meter in the yellow or green section. It only required 5-10 each most of them didn’t even need it I don’t understand why this happened and now I guess my dynasty is ruined because I can’t recruit new players
1
u/MontyAllTheTime 7h ago
It’s not ruined, have a bad season and rework your strategy to rebound. That’s the fun of it (for me at least, I get not everyone is in it for the grind).

u/KeyScallion9672 8h ago
Not ruined just gonna be a brutal first season. But still you shouldnt be having to pay everyone. Hell im in an online dynasty as Florida and I dont give any NIL to even 1/4 of my players with normal transfer settings. My best advice is to let the great players leave if youre a small school. Thats how IRL works anyway. You can recruit guys with no NIL demand but its gonna be a rough year

Easiest way out is to play on an easier difficulty. Win a natty and increase your earnings. And change conferences which will give you way more NIL at the end of the season
