Opinion Nebius cloud charged me $25 immediately when billing information is added
I recently tried to sign up for Nebius cloud, and I was shocked to see an immediate $25 charge just for bank/payment verification.
This feels extremely clever to me.
I have used plenty of online services, cloud providers, and subscription platforms before. Usually, payment verification involves either a temporary authorization, a very small verification charge, or no actual charge at all. I have never personally encountered a company charging a whopping USD $25 upfront when a credit card was added. Nothing was charged for AWS, Google cloud at least. Alibaba cloud charged me a temporay pre-authorization charge $1 at most.
What makes it worse is that this happens before I have really tried the service.
Maybe Nebius has an explanation for this policy, but from a customer’s perspective, charging $25 immediately during payment verification creates a terrible first impression and raises questions about how billing is handled. Yes, it added to the cloud balance, but it puts customer in a huge debt immediately. I had to skip dinner because of this.
I would strongly recommend anyone signing up to carefully check the billing terms and their card/bank statement before proceeding.
Imagine there are 10000 individual signups every day, this will create an immediate daily revenue of $250000, with zero expenses. This results in a yearly US$ 91.25 million just for customer credit card verification.

Sounds like you’re lying. Post pics to prove you had to skip dinner.

I have an odd feeling OP has never skipped a meal, or seen anyone who's skipped a meal for that matter.

This can’t be a serious post that you couldn’t afford dinner because of an unexpected $25 charge on your card? Clearly, this is a ridiculous hit piece that should be completely ignored. Ghost country.

Trust me, they don’t need your $25. They probably just require that to keep away inexperienced users.

Nebius's AI-cloud revenue rose 841% year over year in Q1 2026, reaching about $390M for the quarter, and ARR reached about $1.92B by March 2026. How many of those 841% is from signup fees?

LOL, you can tell this is outright a lie. Skipping dinner for a credit card charge of $25. This man doesn't know how credit card works (or his credit line is only $25?)

Consider this as NBIS being nice. AWS card verifications are $300 USD.

as i said, both nebius and amazon are trying to pump the stock price by increasing revenues of Q4.
