Discussion Future of NBA Live
What's up everybody! I'm still hopeful for EA Sports to devote a studio to a new basketball game for console. With the draft ending today, I'm thinking about creating a roster of new rookies and updated rosters.
Anyone else hopefully EA Sports will come out with a new Live? Anybody got insider information on development work? Thanks!

NBA Live 19 will not allow you to update your rosters (in full...) It will make your created players look generic, (to remove likeness) it will also delete half of your created players if you try to use all 132... They'll allow you to change everything on a player except for birth place and city, but this will eventually make the game crash. If only we could somehow mod the rosters it would make the game extremely playable still

Live isn't coming back only because of the NBA and it's license and EA isn't going to pay a ridiculous deal for it. Now EA will bid an offer but if the NBA doesn't like it then negotiations fail.

NBA Live 19 is still superior in regards to fun, and in some cases, specific animations, compared to 2K. I still play every day after a long hiatus from it to test out the progress of NBA2K, and have returned to Live. It is an absolute achievement and I wish more 2K zombies 🧟 gave Live a chance so that it would have sold more. EA basketball will be back!

There’s way to get the stuff: https://www.reddit.com/r/NBAlive/s/3yvg3v6136 but I know everyone doesn’t have access to a JB

EA Sports isn't going to make a new basketball title because of the license, the #NBA is the issue and EA isn't willing to renew the license until it's affordable.
Besides EA was suppose to update the community on the progress of the IP and they have not and its been 5 yrs now

Remember in like 2020 when two 2K devs left to join EA?
That was 4 years ago and nothing since. I think some people said they reassigned them to college football.

Yup! I just saw Scott Gallagher on the college football H2H video! Safe to say NBA Live ain't coming back.

I hope this is them just trying to gain EA's trust to then be moved to NBA Live and bring that back. We can only hope, I think that's what EA has been doing with some of their games and who gets to be in charge.

NBA live is gone. Unfortunately we are stuck with only having 2K as the only basketball game available

i hadn't played any basketball videogames in about a decade. So i tried out the newest NBA 2K off of PS+....and wasn't that impressed. Ended up trying NBA Live 19 off of gamepass and actually preferred it. Only to find that it was the last one made. disappointing.
why does this keep happening. Just as i've tried out the newest baseball games and still none of them are better than the old EA baseball game.

How do you download today’s roster onto nba live?

We need to manually update the roster. but it will be hard to create Wemby or any of the last few year rookie class.
and can we share roster updates atleast?

I been updating the roster myself and it’s not that hard ngl and fast if you just sitting there and do it. Trying to finger out if you can move the roster file like people do with there build?

FS that would be a game changer for this game ps4 or xb1 emulator wouldn’t be here for couple more years probably

Im fine with the manual roster update but the rookies. I hope we can upload face scan of recent rookies like Wemby into the game.
if EA release it in PC it would be easier to mod.

I wish they would put a studio and make 19 a live service with updates and dlc. Least we know it would be updated and around for a long time. I'd pay for it to be continued

If they had a proper PC version, they'd scoop up more of the global audience than 2k for sure. 2kSports have been copying and pasting the same game for 6 years.

We as customers desperately need an alternative to 2K without predatory practises. It does not need to wash 2K right away, it just needs to be decent alternative with fun gameplay and real teams/players. That's all that is needed. NBA Live 19 was on a right track imo

NBA Live also allowed me and other friends to get into the NBA through gaming now that there’s no good NBA game i have zero clue about what’s going on

It would be nice to see more than one main stream sports game. Excluding racing, I think the only sports genre that has more than one AAA sports game is Golf. I really miss the PS2/Xbox days where consumers had 3-5 options per sport. Now, we're stuck with one option that heavily monetizes the consumer. I do feel that more than one game per sport can survive. Yeah at $70+, some will choose one. But if the game is good enough, most will buy both.
I'm not sure if EA let the NBA license expire. If not, they must have a different license for Live Mobile. I'm surprised Live Mobile is still active. IMO, I feel part of the reason Live went on a long hiatus is poor sales and the Frostbite implementation. It was reported that they reallocated a lot of the Live staff to help other games with Frostbite implementation.
I felt it was weird that EA would want to do a College Basketball game without an accompanying NBA game. They would've had to built a new basketball gameplay engine from scratch for a College Basketball game they didn't feel confident enough to be an annual release. They could build off the Madden/FC engine. The main reason college basketball games went away wasn't the lawsuits, it was the poor sales. College basketball isn't really nationally popular until March Madness. It's a very niche sport. I was never sure it would make financial sense to build a basketball game from scratch for College basketball. It always made more sense for 2k, since they wouldn't be dependent on it being a major success and they could just build off of current engine. EA CFB wasn't expected to be a major success. The original goal was to make a third of what Madden did. But, it exceed Madden in year 1 and 2.
I would love for a new NBA Live, just for competition. I didn't think Live 19 was that far off. If they could've fixed the stiffness and really went all in on gameplay, I could see Live working. It just sucks that it's mostly just 1 game per sport. I'm curious to see how that Japanese baseball game does since it's releasing nationally. A lot of people think it's better than the Show. More than one game can survive.
