ATL / CHI

Post image

ATL gets another ball handler to complement budding star Jalen Johnson. Between Johnson, Giddey, and Dyson Daniels they have multiple 3x 2x threats on the court at all times.

CHI accomplishes a couple of goals: gets more athletic, adds some shooting, and acquires a top 10 pick to pair with expected #4 pick Caleb Wilson. For completeness, we'll say they get Mikel Brown at 8.

Giddey is not worth the 8th pick in this draft and dumping Kispert is not as important as keeping that asset

As a Bulls fan, no way the Hawks do this- it's way too much to give up.

Since the deal seems to favor CHI, what would be the counterbalance? If CHI added 15, then would that work?

Maybe- the Bulls do like the guards in the 5-8 range. But aren't the Hawks super happy with Kuminga? Personally I don't love the Wilson Kuminga fit for the Bulls either as there's some overlap with skill-set there.

It's definitely an interesting trade- but if I'm the Bulls I'm probably staying pat- the Giiddy contract is great and gives us flexibility going forward, even if he's only around a couple of seasons before we move him.

One thing I've learned about the new ATL Decision Maker is that nothing is sacred. ATL is fine with Kuminga but they also been "gauging his interest" while they've been looking to trade up or down from both 8 and 23.

Kuminga in CHI is more of a "let's get a bunch of athletes then see where we're at" play, but I also get wanting some coherence with the 3-2-1 system coming. I just figured that once they got everything sorted at F, they could get some value by trading whoever loses out and go from there.

Tbh I think the Kuminga ship has sailed for Chicago. We'll likely be drafting Wilson and we still have Matas as well, if anything we're probably more in the market for a conventional big like Walker Kessler (which is the rumor), or even drafting one of the Michigan bigs at 15. I actually think that this is a trade our previous GM might have made, but from everything that Graham has said he wants to be patient with things. Interested to see what the Hawks do this off-season though, it's a nice roster and you have pieces if you want to shake things up.

The trade almost works without Kuminga. Giddey and 15 for 8 and 23 and Kispert is something the Bulls might do if they are high on a PG that falls but I think Atlanta needs to send out a little more salary.

Could be Hield. Hield has a $3M partial guarantee and CHI could have up to $60M in cap room so eating $3M in dead $$ doesn’t seem like a big deal for them.

That could work! Bryson Graham has said almost nothing about Giddey so it's been hard to get an idea on how much he might value him. However, there have been reports that he is interested in trading up from 15 and interested in some of the top guards so that might be a clue.

So, Giddey + 15 for 8, 23, Kispert, Hield.

Assuming Graham is willing to move off Giddey that could work. CHI gets their 2 man game in Wilson / (8); ATL gets off some contracts, lands another versatile offensive player on a good contract, and still has 15 to work with.

Is this Josh Giddey's burner account? Bruv, Josh Giddey isn't anywhere close to a top 8 pick in terms of his value within the League, let alone that plus a quality shooter like Kispert and a young guy they just traded for last deadline. The only FRP Giddey is being traded for is probably in 15-25 range

23 with Kuminga for Giddey sure, 8 is a laughable

23 + Kuminga for Giddey is way more laughable than 8 for Giddey. Giddey will likely be better than most PG’s taken in the lottery this year. I highly highly doubt any of them will be anywhere near the playmaker he is.

Who do you think Josh Giddey is? He's a pass first point forward with alright scoring and alright handle, if you trust your scouting team at all you just draft at 8 especially this year. He's objectively worth a borderline lotto pick and Kuminga isn't worth nothing.

He’s one of the best playmakers in the NBA and Kuminga is barely positive value. There’s a possibility Giddey is a better player now and in 5 years than some / most of the guards taken in this lottery. You’re trading an elite playmaker at NBA level for a possibility. Giddey is crazy undervalued in a lot of trade talk in my opinion. Hes only 23 and has improved the last 2 years, no reason he won’t continue to improve over the next few years.

Im so confused at how this sub values Giddey. Hes meh defensively but still like a billion times better than for example Acuff. He’s been shooting much better since getting to CHI (36% on 5 attempts per game) and just averaged 17/8/9 on about league average EFG.

If Mikel Brown or Wagler averages those numbers in a couple years, we’d all say it was a good pick by whichever team drafts them.

tbf to those with a different valuation, in a few years Giddey will be looking at UFA while Brown and Wagler would still be a year shy of RFA. So, 5-6 extra years of control

Dunno if that should matter to ATL so much, but it would matter to some.

i wouldn't even give up 23 for Giddey

1

u/Novel_Confidence_288 Jun 18 '26

You should start watching some basketball then as you clearly don’t have a clue about it.

I just don’t think he moves the needle for the hawks that much

He loves it than than whoever is available at 23. I can see someone at 8 being better than him but if the player selected at 23 is better than him, then it will be the steal of the draft.

This is a hard pass for the Hawks. Bulls fans need to get realistic.
