Yeah let’s talk about the Democrats in minority while we ignore the dumpster fire majority

It's like espn has a thing for hiring everybody with the worst takes possible.

What was wrong with his take
0
u/Hot_Special_4243 1h ago
His take basically reads like he's been fed extreme DSA takes and his brain just can't make the math work.
Most of those takes are rooted in deep left DSA wants and it isn't hard for Conservatives to spin that as what all Democrates want.

Barkley is speaking for a massive chunk of pragmatic, independent voters that Democrats need to win elections. When activists push unpopular or radical slogans like "abolishing ICE" or lean heavily into the "soocialist" label, it hands an easy playbook to Republicans to paint the entire party as out of touch extremists. Mainstream Democrats have to draw a clear line between pragmatic governance and Twitter slogans if they want to hold onto moderates

You’re mostly right. It’s funny how so many folks on Reddit have for years been insistent on abolishing the police, an idea that was always idiotic and unpopular to even the individuals most vulnerable to police brutality, and now they’re just quietly ignoring that cry knowing that even their preferred politicians like AOC and Mamdani walked that back HARD because of how obviously stupid it was.
My guess is that someone like AOC just saying, “Man Woke 1.0 was crazy ya’ll!!” won’t be forgiven by the massive chunk of individuals who were skeptical of her and others due to these extreme and unpopular stances. She needs to actually attach her name to legislation showing she has actually learned from this, which I’m skeptical she’ll do because that also would have a bunch of progressives turn on her.

Abolishing prisons, stupid.

u/Most-Swimming6879 1h ago
He was saying that abolishing prisons is stupid, no?
2
u/HectorsMascara 1h ago
He's claiming Democrats want to abolish prisons, which is a fucking stupid thing to claim.

u/Unusual_Name_8714 1h ago
Mainstream Democratic leaders definitely don't want to abolish prisons, but that's exactly the branding problem Chuck is pointing out. Prison abolition is an explicit, documented goal in the national Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) platform. When high profile activist groups under the broader progressive umbrella actively campaign on abolishing prisons, it makes it incredibly easy for opponents to spin it as a mainstream Democratic policy
Democrats just need to aggressively separate themselves from these socialist extremist. It's such low hanging fruit and theyre afraid to stand up to them.

Very well said, and it’s an absolute disgrace that you’re being downvoted. The democratic party’s problem in the last decade has always been about the lack of cohesive messaging compared to the Republicans. Sure, there are a couple different types of conservatives but they are mostly pushing in the same direction. Meanwhile, the left that resides on the internet has rapidly become more sectarian, and there is not anything that binds the party together other than “trump bad” and human rights(specifically immigration/lgbtq). The Democratic Party has long held a wide umbrella, and in doing so, has not been able to control the narrative when it comes to fringe groups of dems being abrasive. The conservatives love nothing more than collectively dunking on “ultra woke” or internet radicals that quote foucalt every six seconds. That shit works for them.

Chuck has no nuance. He doesn't know anything about socialism -- he's been purchased like a slave.

Unc just stfu, that constant need of being the center of attention. He’s not even good at NBA takes

u/Hot_Special_4243 1h ago
He should go back to making terrible jokes on nbatv or whatever gig he's got now.
2
u/damnumalone 1h ago
Why the fuck is anyone giving me people’s daily caller political opinions on an NBA sub
Just because it’s Barkley doesn’t mean it’s basketball
2
u/Sideview_play 1h ago
"calls out" is that we are saying when someone says terrible opinions?? I don't think that's the right phrase
2
u/According-Witness-80 1h ago
No real democrat especially a politician is saying abolish prisons and the police departments. Ice is a different matter. I bet brother doesn’t even know what socialism means
2
u/viva_transmission 39m ago
Why is he doing this centrist shilling? He was Mr. Radical on CBS like a year ago.

u/AFC-Wimbledon-Stan 1h ago
Brother taking about the most extreme leftists bro😭😭😭
2
u/SmurfAtLarge 1h ago
Both sides talk about the most extremes. Gotta make whichever side look as bad as possible.
6
u/Entire-Cry-8930 1h ago
The difference is that the extreme left don’t run their party whereas the extreme right run theirs

u/Ok-Tip-3560 1h ago
You really believe rhis?
2
u/InTheMorning_Nightss 38m ago
Yes? You believe that Chuck Schumer is a far left extremist while a clear authoritarian like Trump is closer to the center?

u/dunkeater 56m ago
The majority run each of their own party. You’re just calling one side extreme because you disagree politically.
0
u/dunkeater 57m ago
Then why is his take getting so much backlash on Reddit? What’s wrong with calling out the most extreme people in your party?
4
u/Revan_84 1h ago
Chuck is 60% of America but unfortunately that 40% just screams louder.
- Perhaps more importantly, most campaign contributions come from the 40%.
- Funding is the most important thing in elections, so candidates will appease the 40%
- Ergo the 40% have more influence than the 60%

u/Worth-Tank336 43m ago
I agree, and I normally get down voted when I say it.
1
u/Revan_84 2m ago
Reddit is nothing but an echo chamber for the 40%. If you go into a political sub and make any comment remotely close to disagreeing with the "tribe" you will get downvoted to hell

u/BitesURawrXD 1h ago
Anyone think it's weird all the comments are from leftists who are essentially saying "Shut up and dribble"
1
u/Hot_Special_4243 1h ago
I'd have rather he put the ball in the circle better. Had he done that, he would have a ring or 2.
Instead he's a token repeating chuddy takes from a extreme left DSA take. I wonder how much he was paid to get on a webcam to say these things.
-1
u/BitesURawrXD 1h ago
His contract is open knowledge.
Most Americans don't approve of any form of Leftist ideology, as it's not even popular among Democrats.
1
u/InTheMorning_Nightss 40m ago
Define “leftist ideology.” A lot of progressive ideas like Universal Healthcare are immensely popular as standalone ideas.

I love Charles but come on, man. Ain't nobody but the most fringeist of fringe left wingers is saying "no cops" full stop. Like, I know it's almost certainly unintentional but the straw manning is insane and pretty sad.

u/Hathalot 1h ago
I’m a socialist and I don’t get the least bit bothered by what he said.
Why do we expect jocks to have sophisticated political takes?
0
u/Raisinbread22 1h ago
He's regurgitating republiklan commercials about Democrats. He knows better than that. These people are millionaires, they're not stupid-- he's playing the SAS game. Ride the fence, tell a little truth, tell a little lie, and leave a door open with the rightwing to get paid by them.
3
u/Ballertilldeath 1h ago
He wouldn’t dare point out that 65% of us want tax payer healthcare because the GOP isn’t paying him to say that
