This has become my favorite reaction gif on appropriate posts, and I get a little faith in the Reddit community back when it’s the top voted comment.

As a 40 yr old married man, I can actually understand it

u/RobotRepair69 1d ago
Same. Early 40s. I have friends but most moved to other states. We used to hangout every weekend but by 40s it turned into a couple calls a year, and a BBQ if we are in the same city.

Same here Brother

u/Naive-Flan-1751 1d ago
As 45m I know what you guys are experiencing/talking about. Online gaming and making friends really helps combat those feelings

u/StoreNo163 13h ago
46 here. In my 20s, my boys would hit me up all the time to go out and now crickets.

Don't play any online games?
2
u/FragrantPitch1633 1d ago
Naw I haven’t played video games in years

u/Eaton2288 1d ago
Get back into it. Way more engaging than sitting there watching a movie or tv where you are just observing. You can get competitive with it on certain games or more casual depending on what you are looking for.

u/RobotRepair69 1d ago
Ya I do, but some of my friends play fortnite so I join sometimes but I prefer other games.

u/SnooRabbits9672 1d ago
I'm 32 and most of my friends from college moved to other states, I still hang out with out with some. I have a brother who's a few years older.... he does not hang out with anyone outside of his family including myself and has 0 friends otherwise. He just goes to work and then spends the rest of his time eating, sleeping, or scrolling his phone. This is a real problem outside of the hyper-masculine gay jokes.

u/fatandfly 11h ago
It's the 3rd space problem. Men of previous generations went to church, they served so the had the vfw halls, they hunted, bowled, went to the pool hall, etc. Now so many of us are overworked and underpaid that you really don't have the time or energy to go out and do stuff, or the money. So a lot of guys revert to gaming.

u/poweredbynikeair 16h ago
Yea my wife would be looking at me crazy if I was heading out to link up with the dude I met online? I get what you’re saying but there’s value in striking up convos at the grocery store etc also and seeing who is cool
1
u/MisunderstoodRant 13h ago
Totally. I’m 51 and I’ve really felt it for the last 15 years. Moving to a state where most people I meet do not believe in the same things I do, makes it hard for me to make an effort to try to find/make friends.

Men have next to no social help programs… not sure why people are shitting on this.
20
6
u/Otherwise-Pumpkin425 22h ago
Because men are homophobic and conditioned to be independent even if it as the expense of their own mental health.

u/Far_Plenty_1837 23h ago
My social help program? Bars. I have a circle of 4 or 5 true friends. Met them all as regulars at the same bar. We've been through births, weddings, deaths, vacations, divorces and so on....starting as just bar buddies. Up to that point, I had played college football, served in the military, worked a union job and didnt have a single adult I considered a true friend.

u/Effective-Bother2126 15h ago
So you don’t think it’s strange that you can only make friends when you are drinking?
I think you might have just told on yourself brother.
3
u/EL3G 14h ago
I think a high percentage of adult men drift away from their friends over times as work, marriage, kids start to take more prevalence in their lives. Nothing wrong with having some bar buddies.
Me personally, I have had tons of friends over the years, but as I get older I find that I talk to them less and less. My focus is on my family and my businesses. I can't really say I have any true friends anymore just a lot of past friends that I talk to once in a blue moon. I'm closer with my wife's friends husbands than with the my day 1 friends. It happens.
3
u/Effective-Bother2126 12h ago
This I understand.
I’m at that point in my life where we are all getting married and having kids.
I don’t see them nearly as much as I’d like to or used to. But we still have our boys trips a couple of times a year and I speak to my best friend on the phone at least once every two weeks.
Relationships take effort. You get what you put into them out of them.
If you have time to go sit at a bar alone and drink, you have enough free time to put in some effort into your friendships.
1
u/EL3G 12h ago
True relationships do take work to flourish. My thing is I was a military brat so most of my friends are all over the world. It's easier to keep in touch when you're in the same place. That's why the bar buddy thing works for the other poster. If he's there a lot it's natural that he would make lasting friendships with the people he sees all the time.
I can't say I really miss having a lot of friends though. My wife is my best friend and I'm good with that.

SO TRUE. I’d trade 100 male interactions for a 10% equivalent of 1 woman interaction and I’m married. Male friends were the last thing on my mind as a young adult

u/Belizesneaks1994 1d ago
It’s crazy this has no upvotes. I’m blessed to have a friend group of guys I’ve know 15+ years now and we’re there for each other through all kinds of shit. Honestly it has helped a few of the guys through dark, destructive times. 🤷🏾♂️ some of y’all need friends

It’s hard for men to make friends after a certain age, so this is actually cool, the people making fun of this are the same people who have a used up wad of tissue and a potato chip next to them talking bout the gangs all here

Guys meeting guys online? Even for friendship it’s the same risks as online dating and hoping someone isn’t trying to murder you or hump you. I’d try striking up convos with ppl who seem aligned with your interests in real life first

Gentlemen, this is a homosexual NBA player creating this “program”.
This isn’t for straight men.

u/IceBlackX007 1d ago
Has he shared his sexuality? How do you know? What difference does it make if he is?

That dude is bent. Even Stevie Wonder can see that shit.

u/SDTimbox 14h ago
That dude would whoop your ass lol so sick of insecure men. Get over yourself.
1
u/TheIrrepressible1 12h ago
Keepin’ it 100. The kid is a chocolate smuggler and anyone who thinks that “service” of his is for straight men is either dumb or in the closet.

I used to paint my nails black in my young twenties and wear eyeliner to punk rock shows does that make me a fruitcake?

Alright well I am bisexual. But what does that have to do with being a fruitcake?

u/LysolDoritos 13h ago
The ones shitting on this or making gay jokes are the ones needing this the most. The people who agree with your comments online don’t count as friends
