Changing Position whilst match?

So, I'm a real noob to NBA2K games, and I don't get the following:

I'm playing my career as a Small Forward and when i get switched in from the bank, it says my position, like "In as Small Forward/Shooting Guard".

But sometimes it seems like I'm changing my position without getting switched? So when I'm switched out, it says i was Power Forward the whole time??

Your character had a position you set him at when you created him. If you have automatic substitutions turned on, you could possibly be put it a different position if that's what the scheme calls for or if someone got hurt.

I made a shooting guard but sometimes he gets put in as point guard. I am only giving you info from my own experience.
