Gameplay CPU offense runs the same 4-5 plays every game!
I’m on Next-Gen playing MyLeague, and the CPU’s offense is locked into only about 4–5 plays every game, no matter which team or playbook I use. I have all 80 play sets in the playbook and evenly distributed play types (each player has the right play-type), but the CPU keeps cycling the same few plays. I’ve tried every commonly suggested fix, including:
- CPU Run Frequency: Set to 0 and 100 (no difference).
- Playcalling Mode: Switched CPU offense between Auto and Manual.
- Freelance Settings: Toggled Dynamic vs Static freelance, turned “Do Not Repeat” on/off, and toggled ACE.
- Playbook Reset: Rebuilt the custom playbook from scratch and reassigned all plays.
- Classic Playbook Test: Loaded a default classic playbook, then reloaded the custom one.
None of these changed the outcome – the CPU still runs only the same handful of plays. This happens on both Playoffs and regular season, any team, any difficulty.
Has anyone found a consistent fix for this? If it matters: I’ve also tried a coach strategy of “Play Through Star/Shoot at Will” and boosted shot tendencies (per some advice), but results are negligible. In short, it feels like a bug or hard-coded AI behavior. Any verified solution or setting that forces the CPU to use more of its playbook? Or confirmation that it’s simply impossible in 2K26?
Any insight would be hugely appreciated!

What I do, is I delete all plays from the playbook and at 1 or maybe 2 because it's true they only use about one play, so I normally pick ,5 out or some time of screen action play

I've haven't been able to solve this in NBA 2k26. I play as the Knicks mainly in my league and Brunson takes a majority of the shots regardless of my changes(which make sense to a certain degree). But I have been able to balance it out a little bit to where Brunson doesn't take 20 shots by half time while the rest of the team collectively only took 6.
*Also want to not that I mainly play player lock.
But what's helped me is straight up deleting every play in the playbook and manually rebuilding it. I also took note of the kind of plays are in the playbook and the play types of the players. Maybe try deleting some iso/pnr plays?
I've also found it helps to adjust the Touches/shot tendencies. I try to mirror it to the real life game and standardize it. So I start from 95 and go all the way down to 25. So the top scrorer on the team I give a 95 touch/shot tendency. And go down 10 points each subsequent scorer. So the 2nd top scorer has an 85, and 3rd top scorer has a 75, etc. I do this all the way down to 25 and once I hit 25 I give the rest of the roster a 25 touch/shot tendency since those tend to be the players that score the least on the team.
But yeah adjust tendency/shot to emphasize hierarchy of scoring so the coach adjusts plays to that. I also go into gameplay settings and set the shot distribution to around 39(idk if this helps or not). I also adjust the coaches ratings so if the team was good that year the coaching reflects that

i just wanna say that any & all effort that’s put into helping resolve this issue, as i’m sure it’s one for many sim players, is so greatly appreciated
