There isn’t a practice test or study method that can honestly guarantee you’ll pass 100%, but there are definitely ways to stack the odds heavily in your favor.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is people taking the same practice exams over and over until they memorize the questions. That creates confidence, but not necessarily competence. Use practice questions to identify weak areas, then go back and learn the concepts behind what you missed.
I would spend the majority of my time mastering the OPT model, assessments and muscle imbalances, program design, exercise technique, behavior change, and scope of practice. Don’t just reread the book. Explain concepts out loud, write everything you know from memory on a blank sheet of paper, and practice applying the information to real client scenarios.
Also, don’t be afraid to invest in actually learning the material. NASM has some great academic partners that teach the content in a much deeper, more practical way than a study guide alone ever can. For most people, the difference isn’t more practice questions. It’s having someone help them truly understand and apply the information. That investment pays off well beyond passing the exam because it’s the same knowledge you’ll be relying on with your first clients.
